Control & Protection Engineer - HVDC

Job Description

The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a key competence center comprising around 1500 skilled engineers who specialize in various aspects such as tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision, and commissioning. Over the past decade, it has transformed into the largest engineering hub within the organization. The India Operations Centre plays a pivotal role in Hitachi Energy's Power Grids business Power Up transformation program, extending support to Hitachi Energy units in more than 40 countries across a diverse portfolio encompassing all four business units in the Power Grid business. The INOPC team based in Chennai has successfully executed engineering and commissioning tasks for projects in over 80 countries, showcasing their expertise on a global scale. HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and HVDC Light technologies serve as highly efficient alternatives for transmitting bulk power and catering to special-purpose applications. The classic HVDC technology facilitates the transmission of electric power over extended distances via overhead transmission lines or submarine cables. It also enables the interconnection of disparate power systems where traditional alternating current (AC) connections are not feasible. On the other hand, HVDC Light represents an underground and submarine cable power transmission technology pioneered by Hitachi Energy, offering distinct advantages over HVDC Classic. INOPC-HVDC operates as the global HVDC operation center situated in Chennai, having been functional since September 2007 and progressively enhancing its engineering capabilities and expertise as an integral part of the Global HVDC network. As a potential candidate for this role, your responsibilities will involve designing HVDC system control and executing factory system tests, actively participating in the installation and commissioning of HVDC control & protection systems, and formulating AC control & protection schemes. You will also be required to travel during factory system tests and site commissioning activities, adhering to the core values of safety and integrity by taking ownership of your actions while demonstrating care for your colleagues and the business. To be considered for this position, you should possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics along with a minimum of 1 to 5 years of relevant work experience in Control and Protection systems. Proficiency in tools such as PSCAD, MATLAB, or any other Simulation Software is essential. Additionally, prior experience in a substation environment and familiarity with protection applications are prerequisites. The ideal candidate should exhibit a high level of adaptability to work in a multinational and multicultural team, demonstrate openness and creativity in collaboration with colleagues and customers, and showcase a strong commitment and willingness to excel. Being a quick learner and displaying flexibility to thrive in a fast-paced team environment with tight schedules is crucial for success in this role.,
