Job Description
- Design and Analysis: Develop structural designs, calculate loads and stresses, and select appropriate materials for construction projects.
- Collaboration: Work closely with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure designs meet project requirements and safety standards.
- Construction Oversight: Conduct site inspections, assess structural integrity, and ensure construction adheres to design specifications.
- Report Preparation: Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and technical reports for construction projects.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential hazards and propose mitigation strategies for structural issues.
- Compliance: Ensure designs meet local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
- Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve structural issues during construction or in existing structures.
A structural engineer designs, analyzes, and oversees the construction of structures like buildings and bridges, ensuring they are safe, stable, and able to withstand various forces. They use computer-aided design (CAD) and other tools to create detailed plans and models, and collaborate with architects and other engineers.
