Job Description
Role & responsibilities
- Liaison with Portfolio Manager-Commercial to devise underwriting strategy to maintain
defined loss ratio targets. - Interact with other stakeholders specifically the sales team to understand the objectives
set by them for Corporate & SME products at the circle level - Analyze past trends, market dynamics to provide strategic inputs in terms of product mix,
industry, geography to provide necessary insights to the regional underwriting manager - Provide input to sales team on preferred segments and competitive strength to maintain
desired LOB mix and ensure profitable business growth - Regularly monitor of Branch wise commercial line GWP, Profitability and LOB mix and take corrective steps, if required.
- Underwrite and approve quotes based on authority, based on risk selection criteria and adequate pricing to achieve GWP targets and prevent claims leakage.
- Communicate proposal decisions to the customer via e-mail and update the same on system.
- Create and submit proposals for underwriting to higher authorities based on the decision
matrix. - Co-ordinate with Sales, Risk Engineers, Intermediaries and Clients to evaluate the risk exposure and viability of any risk with suitable terms and pricing.
- Check Claims report and Business data at regular intervals to track achievement of Topline
and Bottom-line targets. - Conduct meetings with the clients, Agents, brokers and bankers to explain the existing and new products, help them understand associated risks assisting them in meeting sales targets
- Interact with the Risk engineers and Inspection agencies to ensure smooth processing to
drive higher customer satisfaction - Assist sales team with underwriting knowledge to help drive better sales experience for the
customers. - Ensuring timely, clear and accurate communication of decisions to Sales team and reply to
queries within 24 hrs. - Preparation of MIS & risk inspection register on periodical basis.
- Initiate Post loss Policy Corrections.
- Explanation of Risk Improvement recommendations to Sales & Intermediaries.
- Conduct regular meetings with other departments to address queries on discounts, rates,
acceptance guidelines of risks. - Sharing of feedback and observations for improvements in processes.
- Interactions with IT team for resolving quotes and endorsements stuck in the system.
- Arranging Documents like Policy copy, endorsements etc from leaders for booking of
business, sharing with Reinsurers etc. At times Sales find it difficult. - Maintain the MIS on a regular basis to submit required information regarding Commercial line products to the corporate office.
- Monitor the implementation of underwriting guidelines and ensure adherence to drive high compliance.
- Assess and consider all kinds of risk to make informed decisions.
Preferred candidate profile
- Graduate in any stream.
- 4-8 years of experience in underwriting function at Branch/Region Level (Commercial Line LOBs).
- Team Lead experience is required.
