Job Description

To assist in providing medical care to patients who suffer from heart and/or cardiovascular disease. Assist in diagnosing, treating, and preventing heart and/or cardiovascular conditions through non-invasive procedures or, when necessary, surgical intervention, in order to provide the best care to their patients.


Role of Consultant:

  • Consulting with patients to understand their symptoms and health concerns.
  • Prescribing tests, treatments, and/or surgery, when necessary.
  • Maintaining detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.
  • Performing tests, when needed, to check the health of patients' hearts and/or cardiovascular systems.
  • Interpreting test results to determine how effectively the heart and/or cardiovascular system is functioning.
  • Using medical imaging equipment, such as CT and MRI scanners, to diagnose and treat heart and/or cardiovascular conditions.
  • Prescribing medication to treat heart and/or cardiovascular disease.
  • Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term care.
  • Training and providing educational support to Junior Staff, when necessary.
  • Work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating and liaising closely with colleagues.
  • Provide support and advice to colleagues working in other specialties.
  • Practice governance and audits within your department.
  • Carry out clinical research as per requirement.
  • Be at the forefront of trialing breakthrough treatments and medication developed by pioneering research.
  • Proficient in echocardiology
  • Support for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in the Catheter Lab.
  • Supervision of specific exercise test sessions if required.
  • Assist to undertake morning and evening rounds of all advised patients.
  • Be available to attend Consultant ward rounds and will have a current knowledge of the progress of inpatients under their care.
  • Maintain a satisfactory standard of documentation in the files of patients.
  • Maintain a high standard of communication with patients, patients families and staff.
  • Shall confer at all times with other clinical team members regarding discharge planning and progress of patients.

Education:

  • MBBS + DrNB - Cardiology / DM - Cardiology.

Experience:

  • Requires a minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Cardiology Department post DrNB.
  • Applied understanding of standard medical principles, procedures, and techniques.

  • Teamwork - Work as part of a team and collaborate with co-workers.
  • Working Under Pressure - Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office - Word, Excel, Power Point.
