Summary
The Power BI Developer role is suitable for individuals with a solid background in data analytics, visualization, and a track record of developing impactful Power BI dashboards and reports. A thorough knowledge of data modeling, SQL, and data warehousing, alongside the ability to convert business requirements into meaningful insights is essential. Responsible for the entire Power BI report lifecycle, from requirement gathering and data model design to the deployment and upkeep of interactive dashboards, the successful candidate will enhance data accessibility and promote a culture driven by data, significantly contributing to our strategic objectives with innovative reporting tools.
This role is hands-on and multifaceted, ideal for a Power BI expert skilled in data analysis, reporting, and dashboard creation. Applicants must understand data modeling, DAX, SQL queries, and how to integrate Power BI with diverse data sources. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to meet business requirements, ensuring they are user-friendly, reliable, and accessible.
- Construct and optimize data models to support reporting needs, using DAX, SQL, and other data manipulation languages to analyze data and provide actionable insights.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand their data analysis needs, translating business requirements into technical specifications for BI solutions.
- Implement and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from various sources into a coherent data warehouse or data lake for reporting purposes.
- Regularly validate data and reports to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of the data presented, addressing any discrepancies or anomalies.
- Monitor and optimize the performance of Power BI reports and dashboards, ensuring they run efficiently and meet user expectations for speed and responsiveness.
- Work collaboratively with IT teams and other business stakeholders to translate end-user requirements into meaningful Power BI based reports.
- Implement and enforce policies and procedures to secure sensitive data, and maintain the confidentiality and integrity of business data.
- Provide training and support to end-users on how to use Power BI reports and dashboards effectively, enhancing data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Technical competencies and skills requirement
- Highly proficient in using Power BI for developing dashboards and reports, including data modeling, DAX, custom visuals, and the Power BI Service for sharing insights across the organization.
- Strong skills in data modeling techniques and practices, and the ability to create efficient, scalable data models.
- Excellent command of SQL for querying databases, data manipulation, and creating complex SQL queries to extract and analyze data from various sources.
- Experience with ETL tools and processes, understanding of data extraction, transformation, and loading techniques for integrating data from disparate sources into a centralized repository.
- Knowledge of data warehousing principles and architectures, including experience with data warehouse design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Ability to analyze complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights, and translate these into actionable business intelligence.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization, serving as a foundational tool for importing, cleaning, and preparing data before integrating it into Power BI solutions.
- Programming Languages: Knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python or R for data analysis, scripting, and automation is advantageous.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a closely related discipline is essential.
- Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate or Data Analyst Professional certification is strongly preferred, showcasing advanced proficiency in Power BI and data analytics.
Minimum Experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in developing and deploying Power BI reports and dashboards
- Proven track record of designing complex data models, writing DAX formulas and measures within Power BI
- Demonstrated proficiency in using DAX Studio for advanced data analysis, performance tuning, and debugging of DAX queries within Power BI environment
- Extensive experience in utilizing Power Query for data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes, enhancing data integration and preprocessing for Power BI reporting.
- Familiarity with data warehousing principles and experience in working with data warehouse technologies.
- Experience in data visualization and presentation, with a keen eye for design and usability.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, business analysts, and stakeholders, to deliver data-driven insights.
