Job Description

The Purchase Engineer plays a crucial role in procuring goods and services necessary for the operation of the company. They are responsible for managing the procurement process from identifying potential suppliers to negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of materials. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge, negotiation skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Supplier Identification: Research and identify potential suppliers/vendors who can provide the required goods and services at competitive prices while maintaining quality standards.
  • Request for Quotations (RFQ): Prepare and issue RFQs to selected suppliers, clearly outlining the specifications, quantities, and delivery requirements.
  • Supplier Evaluation: Evaluate supplier proposals based on factors such as price, quality, reliability, and delivery time. Conduct supplier audits and assessments as needed.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable pricing, payment terms, and contractual agreements. Work to achieve cost savings without compromising quality.
  • Purchase Orders: Generate and issue purchase orders to selected suppliers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Order Tracking: Monitor the status of purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of materials and services. Resolve any issues or discrepancies that may arise during the procurement process.
  • Inventory Management: Coordinate with the inventory management team to maintain optimal inventory levels and avoid stockouts or excess inventory.
  • Vendor Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to foster collaboration, resolve disputes, and address any concerns or issues in a timely manner.
  • Cost Analysis: Analyze procurement data and trends to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. Provide regular reports and updates to management on procurement activities and performance metrics.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies related to procurement activities, including ethical sourcing practices and supplier diversity initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing procurement activities.
  • Certification in procurement or supply chain management (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) is a plus.
