Job Description

Main tasks & responsibilities: GIS Application Development: Develop, design, and maintain GIS applications, tools, and web-based interfaces to enable efficient data visualization, analysis, and reporting. Geospatial Data Management: Manage, process, and integrate geospatial data from various sources, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and quality. Customization: Customize GIS applications to meet specific project requirements and integrate GIS functionality with other systems. Database Management: Create and manage spatial databases, including data modeling, indexing, and optimization for performance. Geospatial Analysis: Conduct geospatial analysis to derive meaningful insights and support decision-making processes. GIS API Integration: Integrate third-party APIs and geospatial libraries into GIS applications as needed. Documentation: Prepare detailed technical documentation, including system architecture, code comments, and user manuals. Testing and Quality. Assurance: Conduct testing, debugging, and quality assurance to ensure GIS applications are error-free and perform efficiently. Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including GIS analysts, data scientists, and software developers, to deliver integrated solutions. Stay Current: Keep abreast of emerging GIS technologies, tools, and best practices to continuously improve GIS solutions. Geodatabase Design and Maintenance: Design and implement geodatabases, ensuring appropriate data modeling, schema design, and documentation. Manage geodatabase updates, versioning, and archiving. Implement data standards and best practices to ensure consistency and data integrity. Project Support and Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS data and analysis into larger projects and initiatives. Provide technical support and training to team members on GIS-related tools and techniques. Requirements: 5+ years of experience as GIS developer Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus. Proven experience in GIS application development, geospatial data management, and geospatial analysis. Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar tools. Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Java for GIS application development. Experience with geospatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS) and spatial query optimization. Familiarity with GIS web services, APIs (e.g., ArcGIS REST API), and web mapping libraries (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers). Knowledge of spatial data formats (e.g., Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML) and geospatial data standards. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Experience in working with geospatial databases and data management, with a focus on forestry, agriculture, or horticulture data. Familiarity with remote sensing data, satellite imagery, and image processing techniques relevant to forestry, agriculture, or horticulture. Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Python, Javascript, R, for automation and analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills to present complex geospatial information. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with stakeholders from forestry, agriculture, or horticulture domains. Experience with web mapping technologies and spatial data visualization, specifically in the context of forestry, agriculture, or horticulture, is desirable. Knowledge of industry-specific domains such as forest management, precision agriculture, agroforestry, or horticulture is a plus
