Role Description:
As a VMware Administrator, you will oversee the daily operations of the VMware environment, ensuring its performance and stability. This includes managing virtual machines, configuring resources, resolving incidents, and contributing to the enhancement of the virtual infrastructure. Your role will be critical in supporting datacenter operations and ensuring the seamless functioning of virtualized systems.
Job Responsibilities:
Virtualization Management
- Administer VMware environments, including vCenter, ESXi, and vSphere.
- Perform day-to-day operations such as creating data stores, configuring networks, and managing port groups on virtual switches.
- Handle resource allocation tasks, including adding CPU, memory, and disk resources.
- Manage snapshots, clones, and various types of VM migrations.
System Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Conduct daily health checks of the virtual environment.
- Perform troubleshooting for ESXi hosts, virtual machines, and networking issues.
- Optimize VM clusters using tuning and best practices.
- Address operational incidents such as low disk space, CPU performance, and memory utilization.
Networking and Protocols
- Configure port groups, VLAN tagging, and NIC teaming.
- Ensure smooth operation of network protocols, including TCP/IP, DHCP, and DNS.
- Manage and monitor RAID configurations and storage connectivity.
Performance and Security
- Monitor system performance and proactively address potential bottlenecks.
- Implement VMware best practices to maintain system security and efficiency.
- Plan and execute upgrades to vCenter 7.0 and ESXi 7.0.
Datacenter Operations
- Perform routine datacenter operations, including hardware checks and maintenance.
- Collaborate with teams to support virtual infrastructure needs for new and existing projects.
- Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, procedures, and incidents.
Skills:
Technical Skills
- 7+ Years of experience
- Hands-on experience with VMware technologies, including vCenter, ESXi, vSphere, HA, and DRS.
- Proficiency in managing VLANs, NIC teaming, and port groups.
- Knowledge of RAID, TCP/IP protocols, DHCP, and DNS.
- Experience with resource optimization, data store creation, and network configuration.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for ESXi, virtual machines, and networking issues.
Soft Skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational skills to manage daily operations and documentation.
Education:
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
