Job Description

    Responsible for Designing, Coding, Testing, Implementing, Maintaining and Supporting application software that is delivered within scope, with high quality, on time and within budget. Work closely with Business partners, & Technology team members to understand business requirements, perform analysis and design of quality technical solutions that comply with the organization's architectural standards. Provide technical help to the other development team through the full software life cycle. Planning Work in partnership with the project team and business to fully understand project goals and requirements and use this knowledge to effectively plan and execute the development process. Actively participate in the code review process to ensure development work adheres to standards and specifications (including peer review and code review external to team). Provide technical assistance to the development team through the full software life cycle. Expected to conduct analysis and impact assessments, define and provide options and effort /duration estimates to leaders for approval Design & Build Create low level design documents (including code samples/outlines) and detailed engineering specifications based on complex business, user and non-functional (e.g., performance, reliability, balance and controls) requirements. Write code, adhering to coding standards, procedures and techniques. Maintain integrity of existing program logic according to specifications. Complete project deliverables using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Conduct design reviews Define and develop unit test plan and provide integration and business test planning input. Review & Document Write and/or revise system design documentation and operations documentation providing input into operation support manuals and user guides. Create and properly archive all project / technical documentation. Ability to manage workload and deadlines Test & Execute Unit test all code and programs prior to releasing them to quality assurance. Quickly resolve all unit test issues. Assist quality assurance in identifying test cases and creating/mining test data to enable a thorough test of all development deliverables. Respond to all inquiries and issues in a timely manner as developed code/program moves through the testing process and into production. Provide implementation/production support as required. Leadership Responsible for providing guiding, coaching and mentoring to team members and also accountable for performance appraisals Develop and maintain a high-performing team through effective hiring, vendor partner management, coaching and performance management. Asset Stewardship & Troubleshooting Improve the health of system assets by identifying enhancements to improve performance, reliability, and resource consumption. Process & Technical Guidance. Maintain Skill Set & Relationships Maintain up-to-date business domain knowledge and technical skills in software development technologies and methodologies. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with business partners and project teams. Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. 7-10 years of relevant experience in Mainframe Application Development. * Experience coding and/or designing on Mainframe Assembler, COBOL, JCL, IMS DB, CICS. Experience working on MF tools like File Manager, Debugger, JOBTRAC etc Good knowledge of version control tool like Changeman. Expertise on MF JCL utilities like SORT, MERGE, IDCAMS etc 3+ years of practical experience and proven success with the design and build of complex software applications. * Demonstrated experience in providing second level Production support. Demonstrated experience coding and/or designing in multiple environments. Proven ability to successfully translate client/business needs into software designs. Proven analytical and business skills to reconcile conflicting objectives and find/design acceptable compromises within existing limitations. Understand and apply both current technical solution elements (specific tools, components, and frameworks) and abstract elements (algorithms and architectures). Good communication skills Proven ability to build relationship and collaborate with teams across organization Proven ability to lead/manage technology team members. Flexibility in timings for installs and secondary prod support. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with Annuity and Insurance products and policy admin systems. Knowledge of MF Development technologies including Assembler, Easytrieve, VSAM etc. Familiar with MF modernization tools like IDZ, TTD (TOPAZ), RPP etc Proficiency with related software tools including but not limited to JIRA, ServiceNow etc. Proven ability to successfully translate client/business needs into software designs. Proven analytical and business skills to reconcile conflicting objectives and find/design acceptable compromises within existing limitations. Understand and apply both current technical solution elements (specific tools, components, and frameworks) and abstract elements (algorithms and architectures).
