Job Description

What you'll do

You are a capable, self-motivated data engineer, well-adapted in software development methods including Agile/Scrum. You will be a member of the data engineering team working on tasks ranging from design, development, operations of data warehouse, data platform functions. We enjoy working closely with each other utilizing an Agile development methodology. Priorities can change quickly, but our team members are able to stay ahead to delight every one of our customers whether they are internal or external to Viasat.


The day-to-day
  • Ability to work on distributed remote agile teams with a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. You will be required to communicate both verbally and in written form with remote international teams very frequently.
  • Embracing the DevOps philosophy of product development, in addition to your design development activities you are also required to provide operational support of the post-production deployment.

What you'll need
  • 6-8 years of experience with good knowledge of computer science fundamentals
  • Strong working knowledge on GoLang.
  • Willingness to learn/work on other programming languages like Java or Python.
  • Working experience with networking products on Linux platform
  • Experience with microservices development and integration.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes container orchestration.
  • Experience with developing scalable data collection/processing applications
  • Experience with cloud computing concepts in AWS and GCP
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive.
  • Broad range of technology interests across different disciplines including computer and system architecture, scalability, performance analysis, distributed systems design, and integration.

What will help you on the job
  • Experience with Big data technologies like Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, etc..
  • Experience with Open source software like Logstash, ELK stack, Telegraf, Prometheus and OpenTelemetry is a plus
  • Experience in designing and implementing automated software component and integration tests.
  • Continuous Integration Deployment (CI/CD) training or experience with GitHub Actions, Ansible/Terraform.
  • Prior working experience in a DevOps team is a plus.
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering or equivalent technical background and experience.
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 10%
