Job Description

Position Overview The Data Research Engineering Team is a brand new team with the purpose of managing data from acquisition to presentation, collaborating with other teams while also operating independently. Their responsibilities include acquiring and integrating data, processing and transforming it, managing databases, ensuring data quality, visualizing data, automating processes, working with relevant technologies, and ensuring data governance and compliance. They play a crucial role in enabling. data-driven decision-making and meeting the organization's data needs. A typical day in the life of a Junior Data Visualisation Specialist/Data Quality Analyst will involve understanding the data visualization and manipulation needs of editors and writers, and assists in designing and developing internal web applications to fulfill those requirements. They collaborate with a full-stack developer to integrate data visualization features and implement visually appealing and intuitive charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards. They also contribute to data quality assurance by developing methods and processes to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Their responsibilities include monitoring data quality issues, conducting data profiling and analysis, and developing reports and visualizations to track data quality trends. The Junior Data Visualization Specialist/Data Quality Analyst stays updated with emerging tools and techniques and supports cross-functional teams in understanding data requirements. Knowledge of data visualization tools, front-end technologies, SQL, and Python are valuable qualifications for this role. Responsibilities: Collaborate with editors and writers to understand their data visualization and manipulation needs, and assist in designing and developing internal web applications to fulfill those requirements. Work closely with the full-stack developer to integrate data visualization features into the web applications. Implement visually appealing and intuitive data visualizations, including charts, graphs, and interactive dashboards, to present data in a concise and meaningful way for editors and writers. Develop data quality assurance (QA) methods and processes to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the data. Support the Data Research Engineering Team in defining and implementing data validation rules and automated data quality checks. Monitor and analyze data quality issues, investigating root causes, and proposing solutions to improve data quality. Contribute to data profiling and analysis to identify data anomalies, outliers, and inconsistencies. Collaborate with the database engineer/developer to define and implement data quality metrics and KPIs, and develop reports and visualizations to track and communicate data quality trends and improvements. Identify data gaps or missing data elements and work with relevant team members to address these gaps. Provide support and training to editors and writers on data manipulation and visualization tools and techniques. Stay up to date with emerging data visualization tools, techniques, and best practices, and apply them to enhance the data visualization capabilities within the organization. Contribute to cross-functional teams in understanding data requirements and participating in data strategy and governance initiatives. Collaborate with the Data Research Engineer to estimate development efforts and meet project deadlines. Collaborate with and assist fellow members of the Data Research Engineering Team as required. Assume accountability for achieving development milestones. Prioritize tasks to ensure timely delivery, in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities. Perform tasks with precision and build reliable systems. Leverage online resources effectively like StackOverflow, ChatGPT, Bard, etc., while considering their capabilities and limitations. Explore third-party technologies as alternatives to legacy approaches for efficient data pipelines. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is desirable but not essential. Knowledge or some experience in data visualization and manipulation, preferably in a web application environment. Knowledge of Python. Familiarity with data visualization tools and libraries, such as D3.js, Plotly, or Tableau. Familiarity with Python modules such as Pandas, SQLAlchemy, sklearn is a plus. Basic knowledge of SQL and data querying to perform data validation and quality checks. Exposure to front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Angular to assist in designing and implementing data visualizations in web applications. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, and the ability to identify and address data quality issues. Familiarity with data profiling and analysis techniques to identify data anomalies and outliers. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Good and effective communication skills. Understanding of design principles and best practices for effective data visualization. Interest in learning data quality assurance methodologies, techniques, and tools. Eagerness to learn and develop skills in data visualization and data quality analysis. Familiarity with database concepts and data modeling principles is a plus. Ideally, familiarity with Knime or similar tools for data integration and analysis. Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS (RDS, S3, EC2 and ECS), Google Cloud Platform, and big data technologies is a plus. Experience with version control systems, such as Git, for collaborative development. Familiarity with Docker containers or similar technologies is a plus. Familiarity with Agile development methodologies is a plus. Comfortable with autonomy and ability to work independently.
