About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure to join our growing technology team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of SQL Server databasesboth on-premises and in the Azure cloud.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, configure, and optimize SQL Server databases (2016 and above) across development, test, and production environments.
- Design, deploy, and maintain Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
- Monitor database performance and proactively identify tuning opportunities.
- Implement and manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On, Log Shipping, and Azure Site Recovery.
- Automate routine database tasks using PowerShell or T-SQL scripts.
- Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams for schema design, query tuning, and database version control.
- Ensure database backups, restores, and compliance with security standards.
- Participate in database upgrades, migrations (on-prem to cloud), and patching activities.
- Leverage Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Azure Security Center for proactive database health monitoring.
- Maintain documentation of architecture, configurations, and procedures.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, with at least 3 years in Azure-based environments.
- Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instances, and SQL Server on IaaS.
- Strong expertise in performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
- Deep understanding of backup/restore strategies, HA/DR solutions, and replication techniques.
- Experience in database migration using Data Migration Assistant (DMA) or Azure Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Proficiency in PowerShell, T-SQL, and automation frameworks.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, ARM templates, or Terraform is a plus.
- Microsoft Certification (e.g., DP-300: Administering Relational Databases on Microsoft Azure) preferred.
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of NoSQL (e.g., Cosmos DB) or big data integrations.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines in a data environment.
- Awareness of cost optimization techniques in Azure.
