Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Were seeking a seasoned BI Reporting Tools Expert to lead development and migration initiatives across Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Qlik, and SAP BO. This hybrid Developer/Lead role combines hands-on report development, solution architecture, and full-lifecycle migration of legacy BI assets to Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect & Design
  
• Define end-to-end BI solution architectures leveraging Power BI as the target platform.
  
• Establish best practices, standards, and governance for report design, data modeling, and performance tuning.
  
• Hands-On Development
  
• Develop complex dashboards, paginated reports, and self-service analytics in Power BI.
  
• Maintain and enhance existing reports in Tableau, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Qlik, and SAP BO.
  
• Migration Leadership
  
• Lead discovery and inventory of reports across all BI platforms.
  
• Map and convert semantic models (dimensions, measures, hierarchies) from source tools into Power BI data models.
  
• Build automated or semi-automated migration pipelines using scripts, APIs, or third-party accelerators.
  
• Quality & Performance
  
• Optimize DAX, SQL, MDX, and data source queries for large data volumes.
  
• Implement incremental refresh, composite models, and query folding to maximize performance.
  
• Team & Stakeholder Management
  
• Mentor and guide a team of BI developers through migrations and new development.
  
• Liaise with data engineering, architecture, and business teams to align BI solutions with strategic goals.
  
• Documentation & Training
  
• Create detailed migration playbooks, data dictionaries, and user guides.
  
• Conduct workshops and training sessions for end users and support teams on Power BI best practices.

Required Skills & Expertise

• Advanced Development:
  
• Power BI Desktop/Service (DAX, M queries, dataflows, paginated reports)
  
• Tableau (calculated fields, LOD expressions, parameterization)
  
• IBM Cognos Analytics (Framework Manager, Report Studio)
  
• MicroStrategy (Architect, Developer, Visual Insight)
  
• Qlik Sense/QlikView (script editor, set analysis)
  
• SAP BO (Universe Design, Web Intelligence)
  
• Migration Proficiency:
  
• Proven track record migrating reports from Tableau, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Qlik, SAP BO to Power BI.
  
• Experience with tools or frameworks to automate metadata extraction and mapping.
  
• Data Modeling & Integration:
  
• Dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, and data warehouse concepts.
  
• ETL/ELT orchestration (Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Informatica, or similar).
  
• Performance & Governance:
  
• Query optimization, incremental load strategies, and governance frameworks (security, versioning, auditing).
  
• Soft Skills:
  
• Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  
• Effective communicator able to translate technical concepts for business audiences.
  
• Leadership experience guiding cross-functional teams in agile delivery models.
  
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  
• 12+ years of BI development experience, with at least 3 years leading migrations to Power BI.
  
• Demonstrable portfolio of enterprise-scale BI projects across multiple reporting platforms.
  
• Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) or equivalent is a plus.
