Senior Principal Technical Expert - Metals @ Schneider Electric

Job Description

The incumbent candidate will be part of the Energy Management business unit CTO-India office, and belong to the Global Materials group consisting of polymer & metals experts. The metal expert is expected to contribute towards innovation in developing new materials, identifying emerging technologies and applying them across Schneider Electric products. Understanding of electrical products such as circuit breakers, switches would be helpful. The metal expert would be interacting with businesses to understand their application need and suggest a suitable grade of metal per standards.

The individual will also be required to work closely with procurement, regulatory, quality and other functions to solve material requirements and provide improvement in quality.

Good understanding and experience in assessing sustainability, recyclability, circularity of materials is a plus. Understanding of green technologies in manufacturing & treating metals & future roadmaps is essential.

The job may require the candidate to travel to manufacturing plant to solve a technical material related problem, or travel to supplier to help in audit of new supplier.

Good communication skills, ability to collaborate, work with cross-functional teams and understanding business priorities is a must.

The metal expert is expected to provide innovative outside the box solutions and act as a go-to person for all metals related problems. Deep understanding of structure-property relationship and its impact on application is necessary. experience in heat treatment & surface treatment technologies is a must. Experience in conventional metal forming processes is required, additive manufacturing experience is a plus.

1. PhD in material science / metallurgy
2. Minimum 5 years experience in the area of metallurgy
3. Good understanding of structure-property relationship of alloys, effect of impurities and phase morphology/mixture.
4. Understanding and experience in magnetic materials is required.
5. Ability to perform failure analysis and root cause analysis (RCA) & suggest design / material change to improve quality & productivity
6. Hands-on experience in testing techniques such as UTM, SEM, hardness, spectroscopy, microscopy etc.
7. Perform design of experiments & follow agile methodology to deliver results.
8. DFSS green belt is a plus
