Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer with strong Golang expertise to help architect and build the core infrastructure of our early-stage startup. You will drive backend development, design scalable microservices, own cloud deployments (AWS), and lead a small engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone experienced in backend systems who wants to shape product and technical strategy from the ground up.
While our primary stack is in Golang, we welcome experienced backend engineers (Java, Python, Node.js, etc.) eager to transition into Go and take ownership of a modern, cloud-native backend.
Note: This role will be based out of our office in Chennai.
Key Responsibilities:
- Backend Development & System Architecture
- Design and implement high-performance backend services using Golang (or other languages with intent to move to Go).
- Develop scalable, maintainable APIs (REST/gRPC).
- Architect efficient NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB preferred).
- Collaborate with frontend/product teams for full-stack integration
Leadership & Team Management
- Own backend system design and technical decision-making.
- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers.
- Conduct code reviews, enforce best practices, and cultivate a strong engineering culture.
Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps
- Deploy and manage infrastructure in AWS using Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions/Jenkins).
- Monitor system health (Prometheus/Grafana) and ensure uptime, performance, and cost optimization.
Strategic Technical Execution
- Align engineering roadmap with business goals.
- Rapidly prototype and iterate based on user and stakeholder feedback.
- Stay current on backend trends and tools to evolve the stack as needed
Qualifications
- Technical Expertise:
- 5+ years hands-on in backend development, with 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Proficient in Go (strongly preferred) or similar languages (Java/Python/Node.js/C#) with readiness to adopt Golang.
- Strong experience designing microservices, REST/gRPC APIs, and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB, etc.).
- Hands-on cloud deployment skills (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including IaC, Kubernetes, and serverless architectures (Lambda).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices: CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Jenkins), monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana), and security best practices.
