Job Title: Assistant Manager Design & Development (NPD)

Job Purpose:
To lead and manage the design and development activities for new product development (NPD) in the Distribution Board product line, from concept to production launch, ensuring design integrity, manufacturability, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
1. New Product Development (NPD):
- Lead NPD projects for standard and customized Distribution Boards from requirement gathering to production rollout.
- Develop and validate designs for LT/HT panels, MCB DBs, and MCCB-based panels using standards such as IS, IEC, and customer specifications.
- Coordinate with marketing and customer teams to understand application needs and convert them into design deliverables.
2. Product Design & Engineering:
- Create 3D models and 2D drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools for sheet metal enclosures and panel assemblies.
- Select and design components such as busbars, gland plates, locking systems, hinges, knockouts, and earthing arrangements.
- Ensure compliance with IP rating, thermal management, and fault withstand capacity in design.
3. Prototyping & Testing:
- Oversee prototyping with internal and vendor resources.
- Plan and coordinate type testing (e.g., IP, dielectric, short circuit) in internal/external NABL labs.
- Incorporate DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering) principles into product development.
4. Design Documentation & Change Management:
- Prepare and manage design documentation: BOM, GA drawings, assembly instructions, and specification sheets.
- Implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and track revisions with version control in PLM or ERP systems.
- Maintain database of standard parts and approved vendor list for design.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Production, Tool Room, Quality, and SCM teams for design transfer and manufacturability validation.
- Support plant trials, pilot runs, and resolve design-related issues in mass production.
- Liaise with customers for design approval, technical presentations, and design feedback implementation.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong expertise in DB and panel board design (Form 1 to Form 4 construction, busbar sizing, enclosure layout).
- Knowledge of applicable standards: IS 8623, IEC 61439, IP ratings, UL/CE requirements.
- Hands-on experience in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, AutoCAD, etc.), sheet metal design, and tolerance stack-up.
- Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, bending, welding, powder coating).
- Project management skills to lead NPD timelines and cross-functional reviews.
- Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
Qualification & Experience:
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- 510 years of experience in Design & Development for electrical panel boards or sheet metal-based electrical products.
- Experience in ERP/PLM systems (SAP, Windchill) and familiarity with ISO/TS certification processes preferred.
