Key Responsibilities

Clinical Service

To provide surgical services in the operating theatre, day surgery units etc. To perform procedures within the accorded privileging rights. To respond to requests for inpatient consultations. To assist and participate in ward rounds and be responsible for providing specialist care to inpatients. To attend and participate in department ward rounds and be responsible for monitoring and assisting in providing specialist care for patients under his/her allocated team. To oversee the proper documentation of patients management from admission to discharge. To ensure clarity of plan of care for each patient is documented on a daily basis. To perform night duty calls as prescribed by the duty roster. To perform procedures according to the privileges granted. To be responsible for explaining procedures and operations to patients to ensure informed consent. To make appropriate and timely notes, as a medical record of treatment for the benefit of the patient and other healthcare professionals. To ensure all patients have a planned discharge. To ensure each patient is provided with a comprehensive discharge summary which is authenticated. To work with other doctors as part of a team, either in the same department or with other specialties. To meet the clinical and service quality standards as determined by the Unit. To liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the Unit to ensure quality treatment for all patients. To participate in relevant multi-disciplinary meetings. To provide clinical leadership to medical colleagues of a more junior grade.


Education & Research

To conduct undergraduate and postgraduate teaching when required. To conduct of teaching of nursing, paramedical and EMT staff when required. To participate in Unit Morbidity & Mortality Meetings and department-level CME activities. To engage in outreach activities including public talks, seminars and conclaves, off-site outpatient clinics


Administration


To report all deviation or error in any system to the appropriate superior. To prepare medical reports in a timely fashion in response to requests from patients and other relevant bodies
