Role Overview: As an Open Source PostgreSQL Database Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing our PostgreSQL infrastructure. You will help shape the future of PostgreSQL, and ensure our database solutions are highly scalable, reliable, and performant. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the cutting edge of database technology while collaborating with a global open-source community. Responsibilities: Design and implement scalable, high-performance PostgreSQL database solutions for complex, large-scale applications. Perform database tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and performance at scale. Collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate PostgreSQL into existing systems, providing insights and solutions for data architecture and storage challenges. Implement advanced features such as replication, clustering, partitioning, and sharding to support data-intensive applications. Ensure security best practices are followed, managing roles, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements. Monitor and maintain PostgreSQL instances in production environments, ensuring their stability, availability, and uptime. Help build and maintain internal tools for automation and database management. Keep up with the latest PostgreSQL developments, emerging database trends, and contribute to the open-source community by sharing knowledge. Required Qualifications: Extensive experience working with PostgreSQL, including setup, configuration, and tuning. Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals such as storage engines, query planners, optimizers, and indexing. Experience with high availability solutions for PostgreSQL (e.g., replication, clustering, failover). Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization techniques for PostgreSQL databases at scale. Experience with cloud-based PostgreSQL solutions (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, etc.). Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash). Understanding of database security principles, including encryption, access control, and auditing. Experience in contributing to or working with open-source projects is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with global teams and the open-source community. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with PostgreSQL extensions such as PostGIS and TimescaleDB. Experience with database migration, backup, and recovery strategies. Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and orchestration tools. Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
