Job Description
Role & responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled MicroStrategy Developer with hands-on experience in metadata analysis, API integration, and the migration of MicroStrategy reports and dashboards to Power BI. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of MicroStrategys architecture, data models, and APIs, and will play a key role in facilitating a seamless migration to Power BI. This role requires expertise in reading and extracting metadata, integrating with APIs, and translating complex BI solutions into Power BI while maintaining data integrity and performance.
MicroStrategy Development & Metadata Analysis:
- Analyze and extract metadata from existing MicroStrategy applications, including reports, dashboards, schema objects, and data models.
- Utilize MicroStrategy REST APIs and SDKs to automate metadata extraction and streamline migration processes.
- Document data lineage, relationships, and dependencies to aid in accurate replication in Power BI.
Power BI Migration:
- Collaborate with the Power BI team to plan and execute the migration of MicroStrategy dashboards and data models to Power BI.
- Translate MicroStrategy metrics, KPIs, and visualizations into Power BI equivalents using DAX and Power Query.
- Ensure consistency in data representation, visualization, and interactivity post-migration.
API Integration & Automation:
- Leverage MicroStrategy APIs to access and manipulate metadata, automate reporting processes, and streamline data extraction.
- Develop custom scripts or connectors for data migration and integration between MicroStrategy and Power BI.
- Work with REST APIs for data extraction, transformation, and integration with other BI platforms.
Data Modeling & Performance Optimization:
- Optimize data models in both MicroStrategy and Power BI for scalability and performance.
- Implement best practices for ETL processes, data warehousing, and BI development.
- Conduct performance tuning for complex dashboards and large datasets to ensure efficient reporting.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Work closely with business analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to understand reporting needs and ensure a seamless migration experience.
- Provide technical support and training to Power BI users on newly migrated reports and dashboards.
- Conduct UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and data validation to ensure data accuracy and quality post-migration.
Quality Assurance & Documentation:
- Perform data reconciliation between MicroStrategy and Power BI reports to maintain data integrity.
- Create technical documentation, data mapping sheets, and user guides for the migration process.
- Implement version control and change management for both MicroStrategy and Power BI environments.
Preferred candidate profile
- Technical Expertise:
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience with MicroStrategy development (reports, dashboards, schema objects).
- Strong knowledge of MicroStrategy REST APIs, SDK, and automation techniques.
- Experience with Power BI development, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, and dataflows.
- Proficiency in SQL for querying and data manipulation.
- Experience with data modeling concepts (star/snowflake schema) and data warehousing.
- Migration Experience:
- Prior experience in migrating dashboards and data models from MicroStrategy to Power BI is required.
- Familiarity with common challenges in BI migration and best practices for seamless transitions.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex projects.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Qlik) is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud for BI solutions.
- Certification in MicroStrategy and/or Power BI is desirable.
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages for API integration and data manipulation.
