Position Overview We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Nesting Engineer (Tube & Sheet Laser) to join our engineering team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing optimized cutting programs for tube and sheet materials using laser cutting technologies. Your key responsibility will be to ensure the efficient use of raw materials while maximizing cutting speed and minimizing waste, thereby enhancing production efficiency and contributing to the overall operational success of Allmarc Industries. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in laser cutting processes, strong problem-solving skills, and proficiency with CAD/CAM software for nesting applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams such as design, production, and quality control to ensure seamless operations, alignment of processes, and adherence to production schedules. Key Responsibilities Nesting Program Development: Nesting Optimization: Develop and optimize nesting programs for tube and sheet laser cutting machines, ensuring the best possible material usage and cutting path efficiency. Take into account material thickness, cutting capabilities, and product design. Software Utilization: Use industry-standard nesting software (e.g., Sigma NEST, Lantek, Autodesk, or similar) to prepare cutting patterns and layouts for tube and sheet metal. Continuously evaluate and update nesting algorithms to ensure maximum efficiency. Material Type & Thickness Consideration: Accurately assess and incorporate the different types of materials (stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, etc.) and thicknesses into the nesting process to achieve optimal cuts, reduce scrap, and improve the overall cost-effectiveness of the production process. Material and Machine Coordination: Material Management: Collaborate with the inventory team to ensure that all necessary materials are available for the job. Monitor material consumption, waste, and reusability to support lean manufacturing principles. Machine Performance Monitoring: Stay on top of machine performance metrics for laser tube and sheet cutting systems. Troubleshoot issues related to machine calibration, software, or operational efficiency. Make suggestions to improve equipment utilization and reduce downtime. Cutting Speed Optimization: Fine-tune cutting speeds and power settings based on material type and thickness to ensure that the best combination of speed and quality is maintained. Process Improvement and Waste Reduction: Efficiency Analysis: Analyze production cycles, identify bottlenecks, and recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and material usage. Waste Reduction: Actively contribute to minimizing material waste by designing layouts that make the best use of raw materials, while improving cutting time efficiency. Look for opportunities to enhance process flows and reduce scrap. Cost Control: Work towards reducing production costs by optimizing nesting processes and managing material flow efficiently. Quality Control and Compliance: Adherence to Design Specifications: Ensure that all nesting plans align with customer specifications, project requirements, and production schedules. Confirm that the finished product meets the necessary dimensional and material quality standards. Compliance with Industry Standards: Follow international (European) quality standards and ensure all cutting processes and material handling are compliant with industry norms. Document all work processes and results to ensure traceability. Inspection and Testing: Participate in the inspection and testing of cut parts to verify that they meet design and quality standards. Work with the quality team to resolve any discrepancies or quality concerns. Collaboration and Communication: Team Coordination: Collaborate closely with the production, design, and engineering teams to ensure smooth communication and workflow between departments. Provide technical support to other engineers, machine operators, and management. Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed reports on the status of nesting operations, material usage, efficiency, and any issues encountered during the process. Present findings and recommendations for process improvements to senior management. Customer Interaction: Occasionally liaise with customers to clarify design requirements, ensure that the final product meets their specifications, and propose alternatives for optimization if necessary. Documentation and Technical Support: Program Documentation: Maintain accurate records of nesting programs, material types, machine settings, and production parameters. Ensure proper documentation of any adjustments made to existing programs. Troubleshooting Support: Provide troubleshooting assistance in case of issues with the nesting program or laser cutting process. Investigate machine or software problems, offering quick resolutions to maintain production flow. Training and Development: Train machine operators and junior engineers on the optimal use of nesting software, machine settings, and cutting techniques. Share knowledge of best practices and new technologies to continually improve team performance. Qualifications Educational Background: Required: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Masters degree or relevant certification in Laser Cutting Technology, CAD/CAM, or Advanced Manufacturing. Professional Experience Required: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nesting and laser cutting operations, particularly in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment. This experience should involve hands-on work with tube and sheet metal cutting technologies. Preferred: Experience with laser cutting machine brands (such as Trumpf, Bystronic, or Mazak) and nesting software (Sigma NEST, Lantek, Radan, etc.). Skills And Competencies Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) and nesting software (Sigma NEST, Lantek, etc.). Experience with ERP systems for material management is a plus. Problem Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to handle complex nesting challenges and optimize cutting programs. Knowledge of Laser Cutting: Expertise in laser cutting technology, machine operations, and optimization techniques to ensure quality output. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in creating precise nesting patterns, minimizing material waste, and ensuring high-quality production. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical team members and maintain effective relationships with cross-functional teams. Time Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
