Job Description

Reports to: Head of Animal Health, Welfare and External Affairs


Responsible for: To provide managerial and technical support on interventions related to training and extension at Veterinary universities, Equine Trade Fairs (ETF), Extended Touch (ET) intervention areas etc for ensuring sustainable improvements in services and facilities.


Location: Head Office with regular travel to all ETF/ Outdoor training locations in India. They will be required to travel anywhere in India or abroad as per organisational need.


Renumeration: INR 8.90 - 9.89 lakhs pa and other benefits

Purpose of the Role:


To provide managerial and technical support on interventions in Extension, Capacity Building and practical training to ensure sustainable improvements in services and facilities. They shall be responsible for planning and conducting extension and training activities pertaining to animal health care, animal welfare, farriery, compassionate handling, harness and saddlery, and allied services and augment government vet services, equine fair organisers capacity etc.


They shall ensure minimal compromise of the welfare of equines congregating at outdoor sites. They shall plan capacity building of equine owners, Local Service Providers and other stakeholders to propagate equine welfare awareness activities. This position has a critical role in achieving Brookes vision of minimizing the pain and suffering of the working equines in areas of greatest need and achieving sustainable equine health delivery and allied services systems in the fairs/ congregation places and schools of instruction through training and influencing.

The position requires need based flexible approach to field and office time.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities:


  • Planning, organizing and implementation of extension activities at national level which with the Extension and Training Team (ETT), comprising of VOAWT, EAW, MFT, MTAH & DCA) in collaboration with Regional programme teams and EAC team.

  • Technically lead the Farrier Team and implement the Global Farriery Project (GFP) both globally and nationally.

  • Lead all vet technical training activities including those at vet universities and colleges.

  • Organise and conduct orientation and induction training of BI staff with the SPLPL

  • Ensure the provision of emergency services to the needy equines anywhere in India.

  • Identify equine welfare related issues at equine trade fairs (ETF) and outdoor training sites issues, plan and implement responses to mitigate these.

  • Organise, coordinate and lead the BI activities and support EWPs in equine fairs/outdoor training sites falling in Brooke operational areas. This includes coordination and linkages with local administration, assessment of number of equines at ETF and animal-based assessment, ensuring resources are available at fair/outdoor sites.

  • Disseminate equine welfare messages at ETF and outdoor training sites through conducting dramas, nukkad natak, songs, slogans, etc in support/collaboration with EA/Fund Com team for writing success stories, taking photographs, video coverage arranging media coverage etc.

  • Scope equine migration and trade patterns from different parts of the country

  • Collection of relevant data/information from various stakeholders like veterinary service providers, equine traders, local street farrier (LSF), hair clippers, castrators, saddler and others.

  • Conduct in-situ training for stakeholders like LSF, veterinary service provider, staff, etc and sensitize the equine owners, traders through various community development tools like games, quiz, etc.

  • Conduct advocacy with local existing organizers (NGOs) and government veterinary health systems to address equine welfare related issues.

  • Ensure health and safety for staff (staff vaccination, protective gears, hygienic food and water for staff, first aid box, logistic arrangement, contact no. of local medical facility, etc.)

  • Preparation of budget and ensure optimal use of resources.

  • Monitoring and evaluation of these activities and submission of reports and returns of the activities.

  • Any other duties given by Line manager /CEO

Qualitative requirements:

Qualification and Experience


Essential


  1. Degree in Veterinary Science from a University recognised by Veterinary Council of India
  2. Minimum 5 years experience in equine welfare / management practices
  3. Ability of planning and executing short term interventions
  4. Capacity building, monitoring, correcting and upgrading veterinary skills and manage team
  5. Liaising with senior management on the completion of key projects & Experience of developing rapport with stakeholders and interaction with community
  6. Experience of using IEC in effective and planned manner
  7. Knowledge of Participatory approaches
  8. Fluent in verbal and written communication in English & Hindi
  9. Have love for animals and be willing to work for their welfare
  10. Ability to travel and work independently
  11. Knowledge of MS office and be adept in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  12. Team player with strong interpersonal skills, judgment, integrity, humility and a sense of humour

Desirable


  1. Post-graduate degree in Veterinary Extension/ Clinical subjects from a University recognised by Veterinary Council of India/ PG degree/diploma in Social welfare/development
  2. Liaising and networking with government and other agencies for collaborative interventions
  3. Experience across full project cycle or working experience in projects related to animal welfare or husbandry or livelihood

Remuneration


Remuneration is supported by competitive remuneration and benefits package benchmarked to international standards.


The consolidated salary package shall be based on qualification and experience, and shall be in the approximate range of INR 8.90 - 9.89 lakhs pa.


Brooke India observes statutory provision of Employees Provident Fund as per eligibility.

There are provisions for Personal Accident Insurance and Medical insurance Child Care allowance, which is gender neutral, pro rata Gratuity as per Social code 2020 and other benefits as per eligibility, which are over and above the CTC.
