Definition:
The Product Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of hose products, assemblies, and
tooling to customer specifications
Key Responsibilities:
Design elastomeric composite hose products to meet customer specifications from concept, prototyping,
validation, and sustaining.
Frequently reviews customer and industry design standards to ensure materials and performance
requirements are met throughout the life of the product.
Create 2D & 3D Drawings of products, tools, and machinery, with specialized tolerancing.
Creates cost estimates from geometrical formulations and labor estimates on new products and projects for
quoting new business.
Supports manufacturing in tooling (repair, replace, and re-design)
Follows engineering practices from concept, validation, to sustaining on all products, machines and process
implemented
Documents processes to include but not limited to BOMs (Bill of Materials), ECNs (Engineering Change
Notice) and DCNs (Document Change Notice) to maintain ISO/TS requirements.
Part of a team that Performs FMEAs
Works with management to evaluate cost improvement projects, improved manufacturing techniques and
automation methods
Assists with installation, start up and qualification of machines, fixtures and tooling as needed to include IOQ
(Installation Operation Qualification) and PQ (Product Qualification)
Assist with technician and operator training on new equipment, processes and procedures
Implement Process Capability index (Cpk), Statistical Process Control (SPC) where appropriate and teach
associates within Purosil the basics of these techniques so as to allow utilization of these production
monitoring and improvement methods within the organization
Actively supports the companys safety goals
Must be willing to travel as appropriate.
Skills and Qualifications
A Bachelors degree Mechanical Engineering with 3-5 years experience is highly desirable. Other
combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience within the Rubber Industry is a plus.
Requires strong written, oral, interpersonal and group communications skills.
Must be a champion for change and improvement
Able to work with associates throughout the organization. Possess skills to influence associates and garner
the cooperation needed to move improvements in a positive direction
Should be able to develop and follow DOE (Design of Experiment) to drive improvement projects
Must be fluent in English and Hindi; Kannada or Marathi is a plus.
Possess project management / task management skills that include the ability to plan, prioritize, organize,
gather facts prepare schedules, document processes and procedures and execute sound judgement in
decision making.
Professional experience in 2D drawing standards and tolerancing, familiar with third and first angle
projection.
Experience with GD&T
