Job Description
The staff nurse is a registered nurse, who assumes the responsibility for delivering quality nursing care to patients in an assigned area while adhering to the policies and SOPs of the hospital.
Roles & Responsibilities
1.During Admission
- Initial nursing assessment during admission
- Providing patient and relative orientation about room and nursing services
- Carrying out the primary orders as per the doctors instructions.
2.During Patient Stay
- Responsible for providing clean, safe and patient friendly environment to the patient.
- Maintaining personal hygiene and comfort of the patient.
- Attending the nutritional needs of the patient.
- Co-ordinates patient care with various health team members.
- Placing Indent for required medication pharmacy.
- Administration of drugs as per order by following safe injection practices.
- Performs clinical task e.g., administration of medication, assisting doctors in various medical procedures, preparing articles.
- Observe changes in patient condition and records, take necessary action and reports to the concerned authority.
- Accompanies very ill patients at the time of transfer/ investigation to other related department.
- Collection and sending various samples to laboratory with documentary proof.
- Assisting blood/blood product transfusion as per SOP under the supervisor of the doctor.
- Ensuring nutrition/hydration/administration/ of RT feed
- Ensuring provision of clean and non-infected linen to the patient and relative as per linen policy.
- Taking immediate action to resolve/clear any negative impressions complaint or distress expressed in any way by the patient or family.
- Assisting the doctors in intubation/CPR/Central line insertion/catheterization & other invasive procedure.
3.Documentation
- Documents patients progress in nursing notes.
- Writes the nursing care plan and nurses notes on daily basis.
- Maintain vital signs chart, I/o chart, medication chart, Blood sugar, monitoring chart.
- Recording the findings/observation of the patient in CRR chart.
4.Patient Education
- Provide health education and on discharge education to the patient based on the discharge.
5.Inventory Management
- Handover and takeover of the patients and unit equipment supply.
- Prepare and check ward supplies.
- Check the crash cart/monitors/ventilators etc in every shift to take care of emergency
- Inform to nursing incharge about non-functioning of any equipment.
6.End of life care
- Addressing the spiritual, physiological needs of the patients and relatives. Providing all the necessary support as per the cultural and religious needs of the patients and his family.
7.Death care
- Ensuring all the protocols in case of death are carried out as per the death care SOP.
- Taking care of the death formalities.
You Should Have
- GNM, PBBSc/BSc, MSc Nursing with minimum 0-3 years of clinical experience.
- Sound Knowledge of bedside nursing.
- Knowledge of quality and NABH is an added advantage.
- ACLS/BLS trained.
- Good communication and people skills.
