Job Description
Plan and design major civil projects such as buildings, roads, bridges, dams, water and waste management systems and structural steel fabrication Ensure construction plans meet guidelines and specifications of building code.Civil engineers are responsible for creating, improving, and protecting our immediate environment. Theyplan and oversee construction and rebuilding, as well as the maintenance of roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, dams, harbors, power plants, and airports.
Responsibilities
- Manage, design, develop, create and maintain small-scale through to large-scale construction projects in a safe, timely and sustainable manner
- Conduct on site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other)
- Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy technical specifications
- Assess potential risks, materials and costs
- Provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies
- Oversee and mentor staff and liaise with a variety of stakeholders
- Monitor progress and compile reports in project status
- Manage budget and purchase equipment/materials
- Comply with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety etc and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required
The Civil Engineer is responsible for designing and supervising infrastructure projects. They ensure each project is feasible by analyzing local and environmental impacts and making sure that they can be completed on time within the budget restrictions. Other duties and responsibilities may include:
- Analyzing survey reports, long-range plans, maps and other data to design new projects
- Considering budget, regulations and environmental hazards during risk-analysis stage
- Preparing material, equipment and labor cost estimates and confirming costs are within the budget
- Forecasting design and construction timeline
- Overseeing soil testing to establish soil strength and building feasibility
