  • The Media Operations Engineer s primary focus is to provide leadership on onboarding, sourcing, Live and VOD asset processing while ensuring Customer s business needs are adhered to.
  • This position works closely alongside SMEs from Operations, Engineering, and Product in improving the overall media operations and back-end services.
  • The right person for this role is an outstanding leader with experience leading teams and implementing, delivering complex solutions leveraging cutting edge technologies and having excellent communication skills.
  • He/she shall have broad knowledge of live programming, VOD asset processing, and possess excellent technical skills particularly in the OTT/streaming video space.

About the Role
Primarily Focused On:

  • Work with Content Providers during onboarding process, help certify test assets and setup/ configure content ingestion/processing workflows and supporting systems while ensuring new assets delivered are successfully ingested and published to Origin and Content Management Systems
  • Manage client content, including publishing of videos and organization/curation of shelves and playlists
  • Point of contact in Operations team for all go-to-market teams (Marketing, Post-Production, PR, etc)
  • Ingest all client content and shows, including video assets, trailers, captions, subtitles, metadata translations, ratings and all corresponding video metadata
  • Delivery POC for post-production, marketing, QC supplier, product and engineering
  • Assign all video assets with required monetization policies, match policies, info cards and end screens, playlist information
  • Work with various partners, content owners while on-boarding new providers in Content Management System
  • Assist in managing content claims for all partners and identify infringing content
  • Ensure content blackouts compliance against contractual obligations and partner communications, via audits and/or manual implementation - update, verify, validate, and send blackout notifications to technical and programming contacts
  • Serve as technical support point of contact for broadcast related blackouts, extensions, rights management, and general questions during live events
  • Assist with maintaining the highest quality content metadata via content tagging, metadata corrections, etc
  • Liaise with Platform Development to onboard/review the content providers specification w.r.t. content, metadata, images, etc
  • Collaborate with other teams within Firstlight to create the infrastructure required for content drop off, processing & capacity management to scale up or down the environment as required
  • Check the video and audio quality of content during playback of Live events, L2V and VOD assets
  • Demonstrate knowledge in the use of all broadcast equipment and technology as assigned, including but not limited to, content management, encoding systems, L2V, V2L conversions, playback devices, server networking, planning of network content and media movement, and more
  • Possess working knowledge of Closed Captioning systems and associated workflows
  • Measuring audio and video signals to ensure quality control of Live feeds
  • Seeking out information regarding the workflow of other business units, including their impact and/or specific integration with Network Operations
  • Proactively identify potential issues with projects in progress, and address encountered issues in order to find creative solutions to meet or exceed client expectations
  • Understand complex information and disseminating it to proper personnel in a clear and concise manner
  • Problem solving, troubleshooting and effective report writing/communication to best convey follow-up and/or resolution
  • Participate in training others in operational areas and generate training documentation
  • Train and guide other members of the Media Operations team to ensure on time delivery for all commitments

About You

Experience & Technical Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of content management systems supporting Live and VOD
  • Domain expertise in TV Broadcast & OTT - Video-On-Demand/Live streaming, DRM & Video
  • Knowledge in Encoding, Packaging, Ad Insertion feed delivery through CDN on various platforms like Android, iOS, Web Browsers, STB s & Connected Devices
  • Knowledge of DRM systems like Apple Fairplay, Google Widevine & Microsoft Playready with the end-to-end encryption at player end
  • Familiar with video player frameworks like AVPlayer , ExoPlayer, Shaka & Kaltura Player
  • Working knowledge of various platforms for streaming media playback (eg: AppleTV, Roku, iOS, Android)
  • Advanced knowledge in following technologies Cloud computing (Azure, GCP, AWS), Media workflow management tools
  • Knowledge in implementation of Ateme - Titan Live, Harmonic Encoders for Live TV channels
  • Good Understanding of SSAI that includes Media-Tailor and Google DAI integration with VAST-Ad
  • Knowledge of HTTP based ABR techniques like Apple HLS, LL-HLS, MPEG-DASH, CMAF, Smooth streaming & other media streaming protocols like RTMP, RTSP, Zixi, SRT
  • Experience in handling Live Streaming, Linear TV, Time-shift TV & VOD including SD/HD/UHD services
  • Troubleshooting RESTful web API Calls at Player level for Android, iOS, PWA, Connected devices
  • Experience with ticketing systems (ServiceNow, JIRA) and monitoring tools (DataDog, Kibana)
  • Use of Postman through different HTTP methods for API execution and testing
  • Manage Live TV channels using hardware, software Encoders along with implementation of SCTE-

  • Flexibility to alter shifts/days off and work overtime to accommodate special projects and departmental objectives
  • Must demonstrate ability to perform tasks under tight deadlines, work independently and prioritize simultaneous projects
  • Possess great Organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to business leaders, and business concepts to technologists
