Job Description
A Leading Technology Services Company (Part of big business group) is looking for candidates for SQL Database Administrator (DBA) for Chennai location.
Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the SQL Server DBA Manager. The SQl Server DBA is a role of providing hands-on DBA support work working within an operations team of SQL Server team in the delivery of high quality business services to both cloud hosted, as well as remote managed Data Intensity customers.
This position is a hands-on DBA role responsible for the management of the SQL Server database support across the globe within a matrix support and management model.
- Working with Clients and other support teams to resolve customer incidents, requests and change tickets
- Perform value add proactive work functions as assigned such as environment health checks
- Interacting and coordinating work with other teams
- Help SQL Server Team Manager and Shift manager(s) meet SLAs and drive performance reporting and metrics
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for providing all aspects of SQL Server Database administration support during assigned shift within the context of an ITIL based ticketing tool.
- Ticket tasks can include but are not limited to: Break fix, Account administration, AlwaysON, Replication, Logshipping, clustering, backups and recovery, audit reporting, Performance tuning as well as proactive environment health checks
- Review Work Queue, work in-take processes, execute work, task requests, and work any other requests from clients or SQL Server manager might assign.
- Help the Shift Manager with shift transition when coming on and exiting work shift activities
- Help the Shift and GOC Managers in resolving issues and customer escalations during the assigned shift.
- Assist in the development and implementation of DBA process, procedures and SOPs for SQL Server Database Systems.
- Customer communications be it via the ticketing system, separate email, direct person to person phone interaction, as well as participation in conference calls and in some cases providing leadership of customer interaction in conference calls and other communications.
- Support and follow the DI P0 and P1 escalation process
- Support and follow the DI security management program and policy
- Support and enforce DI Change Management process and procedures
- Support and participate as needed in the Data Intensity RCA (Root Cause Analysis) process
- Responsible for evaluating patching requests, communicating constraints, risks, issues and timelines for deployment.
- Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
About Candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of direct hands on DBA support of SQL Server database support, clustering, backup.
- 3+ years experience in a services company is strongly preferred (Hosting, remote services, XaaS etc)
- Expertise in all major versions of SQL Server technology stack
- Hands-on operational expertise as an SQL Server DBA, and related technologies such as AlwaysOn, Replication, Logshipping, High Availability and Backup/Recovery.
- Knowledge of SQL Server maintenance/patching mechanics.
- Logging, managing, and resolvingSQL Server SR's with Microsoft Support
- Experience with Code Migration tools is a plus
- Power Shell scripting skills is a plus.
- Familiarity with data center migration migrations and designing disaster recovery tools and procedures
- Administration and troubleshooting of Concurrent Managers
- Hands on Windows system administration experience a plus.
- Experience with Azure Cloud Control is a plus.
- Strong communication skills is an absolute must for this position
- Strong English speaking and writing skills are required
- Ability to manage customer or in-house escalation calls is required
- Strong comprehension skills are required
- Conversational skills are a must
