Job Description
As a Restaurant Host/Hostess, you will be the first person a guest meets as they arrive for their meal. You will cheerfully meet and greet the guests, and welcome them to the restaurant. Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression and so this initial greeting is vitally important to the restaurant.
You will need to carefully monitor the whole dining section of the restaurant, including the emptying and cleaning of tables, estimating waiting times for guests, monitoring the guest waiting list, and making sure that the guests are kept happy whilst they are waiting for their table to become free. You must make sure that the tables are in a presentable state before the guests are seated - the restaurant's standards must always be maintained.
You may be responsible for taking your guest's first drinks order. This could occur before they are shown to their table, in the reception area, or when they are first seated. You will either serve the drink to them yourself, or pass on the information to their allocated Waiter/Waitress.
You might also be responsible for answering the telephone, booking reservations and moving tables together in order to be able to fit in large groups. You will also deal with any questions or complaints your guests might have. These must be responded to in a professional, polite manner - in a way that will reflect well upon the restaurant.
You must always be on the ball, and aware of what is happening in the restaurant. You must fully understand the numbers of pre-booked tables for the session, and be able to predict what is about to happen - are you fully booked, or can people just turn up and get a table Are there any guests due with special requirements , or maybe VIP guests
The smooth flow of guests in and out of the restaurant is your responsibility, as is the overall customer satisfaction.
