Overview
We are looking to hire a skilled Front End Developer to design and implement attractive and functional websites for various use cases across Packt. You will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development including the implementation of WordPress themes and plugins as well as site integration and security updates. You will work closely with product owners, IT team and business functions to deliver solutions.
To ensure success as a Front End Developer, you should be hands on, have in-depth knowledge of front-end technologies, a good eye for aesthetics and strong content management skills. You will be able to create attractive, user-friendly websites that perfectly meet the design and functionality specifications of our stakeholders.
You must also have a solid understanding of wireframing tools like Axure RP and Balsamiq. A good grasp of design programs and tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and InVision is also necessary.

About the team and how does it contribute to Packt
You will become a pivotal member of the Platforms team who are responsible for developing and maintaining internal and external solutions to assist in the exposure of data across the Packt domain.
We are a delivery-focused team who enjoy actively developing our skills through the use of newer technologies and methodologies from front-end to back-end.
The team is one that is always evolving and delivering but equally we like to enjoy what we do as well, laughter, humour and a desire to achieve will serve you well as part of the Platforms team for sure.
What you'll do
- Meeting with stakeholders to discuss website design and function.
- Creating wireframes, storyboards, sitemaps and screen flows
- Creating product prototypes
- Designing and building the website front-end.
- Creating the website architecture.
- Designing and managing the website back-end including database and server integration.
- Generating WordPress themes and plugins.
- Troubleshooting content issues.
- Conducting WordPress training.
- Monitoring the performance of the live website.
Who you are
- Proven work experience as a WordPress and Front End Developer. You should be able to show a portfolio of sites and designs produced by you.
- Be able generating WordPress themes and plugins.
- Knowledge of front-end technologies including CSS, JavaScript, HTML, and jQuery.
- Knowledge of Git code versioning.
- Experience working with debugging tools such as Chrome Inspector and Firebug.
- Good understanding of website architecture and aesthetics.
- Ability to project manage, work with agile teams and use agile tooling such as Jira.
- Stakeholder management and communication skills, be able to work across the business, solve problems, be pragmatic and help steer solutions.
- Programming ability in PHP.
- Ability to work under broad direction and from self-initiation. Optimism, energy, and resilience in conditions of uncertainty and ambiguity.
