Job Description
This role is in the VWS and Tech Hosting Deployment team and is part of the HPC & TI organization and overall a part of Projects & Technology SOM (P&T SOM) organization in Shell. The purpose of P&T SOM is to operate the Enterprise Technical IT Landscapes. The differentiating IT services that P&T SOM bring to the business are created by bringing together:
- Specialized and unique own-operated IT technologies
- Staff with thorough Business workflow knowledge
- Market sourced IT solutions (where available)
Staff in P&T SOM comes from core IT functions as well as business skill pools such as Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Engineering, Manufacturing etc.
VWS and Technical Hosting is a set of standardized, compact infrastructure and Upstream business application building blocks wrapped in a set of end-to-end services. It provides local hosting capacity and end-user access to the comprehensive Upstream and Technical and Competitive IT (TaCIT) portfolio for sites with network bandwidth or latency limitations and/or regulatory and JV partner preferences for in-country hosting solution.
The VWS and Technical Hosting service team currently consists of 22 people in a global team currently based in Houston, Rijswijk, Aberdeen and Bangalore. Candidate will work under the VWS and Technical Hosting Service Deployment Lead.
With the continued infrastructure activities, technology changes and some additional project activities that the team is accountable for, we are now looking for a VWS and Technical Hosting Deployment-Systems engineer.
Purpose of the roleThe primary role of the VWS and Technical Hosting Deployment systems engineer is to:
- Act as interface between various Infrastructure support groups, application support groups and our Infrastructure Sourcing Providers.
- Work very closely with the customers and vendor service providers to provide guidance in the effective deployment and use of our systems, products and services.
- Adhere to security standards, processes and procedures.
- Follow ITIL standards and tools.
- Stakeholder and Communication Management.
- Deployment of infrastructure to new sites and existing sites

6) Some exposure to technical EP applications and DB support
7) Knowledge of OS security, encryption, directory services, storage, networking and file sharing technologies.
8) Understanding of situation management processes: ITIL IT management processes (ability to operate stringent Change, Incident, Problem, Request, Asset Management and Release Management regimes)
9)An understanding of the Subsurface business, workflows, tools and processes would be a plus.
Experience and Qualifications required1) Candidates must have a strong technical background in infrastructure service delivery on a global scale placing equipment in Data Center and fair knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure.
2) B.Tech or Masters in Computer Science with 3-5 years of Experience.
3) Ability to prioritize, and make appropriate decisions.
4) Ability to identify and realize opportunities for improvements.
5) Preferred Systems Engineer experience, managing small projects involving multiple technical disciplines and/or participating in large projects.
