Background

UNDP India Country Office focus areas has been institutional and systems strengthening for service delivery, inclusive growth, climate change, resilience, and energy. UNDP approach for inclusive growth is to support the poor to move beyond subsistence and towards sustainable livelihoods through demonstration projects on enhancing capacity, access to decent jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities, strengthening value chains that achieve market access and linkages, and integrated tribal development. This will be achieved by addressing structural aspects of education, training and economic sectors participation through research and policy advocacy creating scalable integrated development solutions, confronting the significant barriers and stigma faced by women and girls. UNDP aims to expand successful partnerships with government and state authorities, private sector, and CSOs and develop new partnerships to address systemic issues and prospective synergies between national programmes, missions, and schemes. UNDP development intervention focuses on women, youths, artisans, farmers, micro, and nano entrepreneurs
The Livelihoods & Value Chain specialist will build on past work of UNDP and work towards widening the partnership base and harness support from the government and the private sector on livelihoods and value chain. The profile will work in partnerships with the government (MSDE, NITI Aayog, National and State Rural Livelihood Missions, NULM, Agriculture, Textile etc.), alliances and coalitions at the country and state levels (FICCI, CII etc.) private sector (Nayara, SAP Labs etc.), and CSOs, in the domain of value chain and entrepreneurship. The profile will work towards strengthening UNDP thought leadership within the space of Women's Economic Empowerment, Livelihoods & Value Chains. The profile will set strategic directions for the various economic recovery and livelihoods development projects across Energy & Environment Unit, Systems Strengthening Unit, State Outreach team as well as projects in collaboration with Resident Coordinator Office of UN and states, provide expertise and technical assistance on local economic development planning, livelihoods, and value chain. It will be focusing on strengthening of institutions to progressively deliver universal access to deliver basic services, employment, and sustainable livelihoods to the poor and excluded, in rural and urban areas. The profile needs to be sensitive to cultural nuances of working on livelihoods issues across states in India
