Background

Background:
The position will be funded jointly by Climate Change and Disaster Resilience (40 percent), Natural Resource Management (20 percent) and Chemicals Management(40 percent) teams on equal cost sharing basis, with each team providing 50 percent of the funding.

UNDP helps countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions so they can sustain a multidimensional level of progress that extends beyond economic gains.UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development, from systems and institutional strengthening to inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods, as well as sustainable energy, environment and resilience.
As part of its 2020-2022 communications strategy, UNDP aims to focus on promoting climate action at national as well as regional level, as one of the thought leaders in this domain. UNDP has been working closely with international organizations, Ministries, private sector and media to leverage more resources and support for the much-needed prioritization of climate change, disaster risk management and biodiversity conservation issues in recent years. As part of this strategy, UNDP aims to mobilize commitment, support and funds through its supporters group and civil society including social media followers for climate action.
In order to design and implement the campaigns, outreach and advocacy initiatives planned as part of its communications strategy, UNDP India plans to engage the professional services of a Communications Officer.
The incumbent will be responsible for implementing communications strategies, forging new partnerships and collaborations for joint advocacy, mobilizing available networks and platforms, and ensuring timely and high-quality reporting to regional and global teams as well as to the donors. S/he will also contribute in preparation of strategic documents including policy briefs and country reports to support the government in communicating country positions under key Multilateral Environment Agreements.
S/he will support preparation of pitch presentations/ documents for potential donors including proposals and presentations and assist in development of corporate engagement strategy.
Supervisor First Reporting: Head of Communications, UNDP India
Secondary Reporting: Head of Climate Change, UNDP India
The Communications Officer will work under the supervision of the Head of Communications and the Head of EER team, UNDP India and will be based in New Delhi with travel, as required, across India.
