Job Description
AAPC is seeking a competent Assistant Manager Medical Coding to work with our medical coding team. To ensure success, an Assistant Manager Medical Coding needs to make judicious decisions on which codes to assign to cases, be able to thoroughly and quickly research, and function at a high level of accuracy. The Assistant Manager Medical Coding will also be able to communicate clearly and confidently with customers and colleagues about coding-related queries, as well as lead projects and initiatives assigned to the coding team. Top applicants will be motivated, detail oriented, able to work both independently and with a team, and have leadership experience.Responsibilities:
- Review and answer easy, moderate, and difficult coding, billing, compliance, practice management, and healthcare business questions from members/customers.
- Assign codes, including but not limited to CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS, to cases.
- Conduct through research to determine correct coding and billing.
- QC/test data and tools, providing feedback on functionality and accuracy, including all areas of user acceptance testing.
- Provide feedback, identify areas for improvement, and conduct ongoing training to team members related to code updates, new products, professional development, and more.
- Lead planning and execution of new product/tool creation.
- Directly respond to client queries related to data and tools, supporting the sales team.
- Attend meetings with clients (by phone/video call) to support sales team with data and tool discussions.
- Monitor for and download updates to federal data.
- Create and maintain tracking sheets for data updates and client file deliveries.
- Assist team members with difficult questions or coding cases.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum 7-10 years of relevant medical coding experience, preferably in multiple specialties.
- Team leadership or management experience required.
- Experience in US healthcare coding and billing industry is preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- CPC, CCS, COC, or other US coding credential required
- University/college degree
- Superior English verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs
- Great team player
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- Eager to learn and adaptable
- Creative and self-motivated
- Willing to take risks and fail; problem solver
- Strong organizational skills and work ethic
- Ability to think critically and determine the best method for completing tasks
- Able to pass coding and auditing test
