Job Description

Part of Baxter s Acute Therapies, which offers a variety of products for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. Responsible for managing a team of electrical, component and mechanical engineers at the Bangalore R&D center that supports the complete product portfolio. Uses technical and medical device process expertise to review and approve complex design concepts, and provide technical leadership and direction to the staff. Exhibits creativity and innovation in completing divisional and cross-functional business unit responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support product portfolio roadmap with an engineering team over the lifecycle of each product with an emphasis on continuation / sustaining engineering and new product launches.
  • Applies knowledge of medical device lifecycle management to effectively drive specific phases of product development and sustainability with high quality and predictability of timeline and budget.
  • Manage and align the hardware functional team to company goals and key project strategies providing input on project planning, defining scope of work, and defining engineering staffing requirements.
  • Participate and represent the hardware group in cross-functional management teams interfacing regularly with test, manufacturing, product management, program management, field service, marketing, supply chain, and procurement functional areas.
  • Utilize solid understanding of theories and practices of a variety of disciplines to directly support the management of complex projects within boundaries of quality, time and budget.
  • Provide leadership to the site engineering staff regarding project prioritization and execution.
  • Manage, identify, hire, develop and recognize technical staff; Create and maintain employee and organizational development; as well as HR plans, which meet business needs.
  • Ensure effective performance management.
  • Drive continuous improvement of site engineering staff and laboratory technical capabilities.
  • Ensure staff engineering work output complies with global regulatory requirements, industry standards, company policies and procedures, processes, and task assignments.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and adherence to FDA, ISO and IEC design control procedures, regulations and standards and ensures appropriate design controls are being adhered to during sustaining engineering efforts and new product development.
  • Responsible for policy setting and defining procedures for the staff in accomplishing and documenting projects. Assist in the development of overall engineering department policy.
  • Approve protocols and support documentation (engineering change requests, system change forms, etc.) in order to secure project release. Develop staff members to assume technical approver role.
Qualifications
  • BS in relevant engineering disciplines, MS preferred. At least 10 years of experience in medical devices with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Hardware Manager responsible for electrical and mechanical engineering.
  • Must be well versed in electrical and mechanical design development and manufacturing processes.
  • Must possess strong working knowledge of business and medical device processes, e.g. but not limited to purchasing, GMP, regulatory and compliance standards, and verification & validation processes.
  • Must be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, capable of analyzing and solving complex problems through innovative thought and experience.
  • Demonstrated history of developing and managing a multi engineering discipline team.
  • Ability to design and influence outside of immediate scope of responsibility.
  • Maintain industry contacts and be involved in industry interest groups.
  • Proven track record of management/leadership effectiveness.
  • Experience in collaboration, design and document control tools such as Solidworks, EPDM, Creo, PDMLink, TeamCenter (TcU), SAP, and MSOffi
