Development Landscape Management (DLM) Operations: Associate Developer - Database Administrator

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

The Development Landscape Management (DLM) department as part of the Product Engineering organization - is responsible for the complete life cycle management (planning, production and operations) of development landscapes for SAP Business Suite products like S4HANA. DLM drives and executes all required activities based on an end-to-end approach and facilitates all functions from development engagement to design, production, and service of those landscapes. The DLM Operations team is in Germany, India and US.

We are looking to fill the position of SAP Database Administrator within the DLM Landscape Operations II team. As a member of this team, the DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, security, and performance of critical RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a hands-on position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the sustainment of multiple database environments (DB2, MaxDB, SAP HANA, MSSQL, Oracle, Sybase), ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), and executing data tasks in support of multiple development teams.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS

  • Database System Administration on SAP HANA, MAXDB, DB2, SYSBASE.
  • Experience in Scripting including Shell Scripting and Python
  • Manage databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Experience in HANA DB would be preferred
  • Hands-on knowledge on Database upgrades, patching and migration.
  • Good knowledge of backup and recovery concepts.
  • Troubleshooting DB performance issues and knowledge of SAP application will be preferred.
  • Good knowledge of Linux/Unix environment.
  • Experience on Monitoring concepts would be an added advantage
  • Provide timely response to system alerts and participate in the on-call schedule (if applicable)
  • Conceptional tasks incl. continuous improvement of service and operation processes and concepts, e.g. evaluation of new technologies/software to improve automation

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Education

  • BE / B.Tech / M.Tech / MCA from recognized institute / university.

Required skills

  • Knowledge in Database administration
  • Ability to quickly analyze technical problems
  • Team player in an international set-up with interfaces to many teams
  • Service and customer oriented, self-motivated and pro-active working attitude
  • Like working in fast changing environments, acquiring and sharing knowledge and improving processes
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)

Preferred skills

  • Basic knowledge on DB administration, preferably HANA
  • Basic Scripting including Shell Scripting and Python

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Basic experience in Database administration
  • 1-3 years of experience.
