Job Description


  • To report on duty on time in appropriate dress code.
  • To ensure the following equipments are ready before surgery in working condition Anaesthesia machine, single or multichannel monitor, pulse oxymeter, diathermy machine, C-arm, OT table, portable suction, OT light, laparoscopic machine, harmonic scalpel etc.
  • To operate and maintain all the medical equipment in the operation theatre.
  • To ensure central supply of oxygen and nitrous oxide, central suction available and are in working condition
  • To ensure the availability of portable suction apparatus.
  • To impart training to juniors / new inductees.
  • To position the patient according to the surgery.
  • To assist anesthetists and surgeon during surgery at the time of intubation, extubation, and to keep drugs for IV infusions and blood transfusions, and also to have knowledge to face any emergency situation.
  • To ensure the anesthetic machine is ready with the following ET tube, jelly, airways pray, plasters, eye ointment, injections, syringes and intravenous infusion materials.
  • To assist anesthetist for general anesthesia, spinal, epidural and local anesthesia.
  • To wash, dry and pack epidural sets.
  • To follow infection control protection protocol.
  • To make arrangements for intra-operative X-rays/availability of radiographer to operate image intensifier.
  • To ensure the equipments like ultrasound, c-arm are available and if it is not available in OT. Necessary arrangements to be made in getting the equipments from other departments.
  • To operate and maintain the operative lights as per the instruction of the surgeons.
  • To maintain Boyles apparatus, to check oxygen and nitrogen cylinders, central supply line, flow meters, cylinder key, urine bags, masks, corrugated tubes, soda lime connectors.
  • To accompany the patient while shifting the patient to operation room and then to recovery room.
  • To ensure the privacy and safety of the patient.
  • To ensure the I.V bottles, I.V line and syringes loaded with medications are labeled properly with date and time.
  • To follow waste disposal protocol.
  • To follow personal safety measures (TLD Badges %26amp; use of lead apron).
  • To adhere to infection control protocol.
  • To participate and contribute to departmental quality initiatives
  • To be aware of departments performance and objective.
  • To carryout data collection/support in data collection.
  • To adhere the safety norms of hospital, follow both patient, and staff safety rules.
  • To perform any job / task as and when assigned by the superior.
  • To participate and contribute for the training.
  • To settle the PMR within 15 minutes after each surgery.
