Job Description
The Azure SQL Database team delivers world class relational database server technologies used across the globe on everything from small devices, desktops, and servers to some of the largest deployments in the world.
This is an opportunity to work in a diverse and collaborative team on extremely challenging technical problems. The challenges span the entire stack of database technology - programming language, query processing, storage & distributed systems. We incorporate the latest academic research and leverage the benefits of modern hardware advancements with a goal of supporting some of the largest databases on the planet and bring record-breaking query performance capabilities and ease of management to them.
As a program manager in the Query Processing and Hyperscale team in Azure SQL Database, you will work on the latest technology in compute and storage while helping define and build query processing solutions addressing computing and storage problems at scale and high performance. We need collaborative leaders who can think big and find creative ways to meet these challenges.

- Listens to customers to understand their needs.
- Drives clarity on required work to meet customer requirements.
- Partners with engineering, research, and other disciplines to design and build new features and solutions that customers love.
- Collaborates with partner teams across Microsoft to build coherent experiences for customers, developers, and end users.
- Plans, organizes, and manages multiple complex projects simultaneously.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or Engineering or Mathematics or Physics or IT technical discipline or in place of 5+ years of internship or 5+ years of industry engineering experience.
- Strong ability to articulate vision, requirements & benefits, providing a solid rationale to business and technical partners.
- Good understanding of database system internals, query processing, storage systems.
- Experience with relational database management systems, preferably Microsoft SQL Server or Azure SQL.
- Enthusiasm, integrity, ingenuity, results-orientation, self-motivation, and resourcefulness to succeed in a fast-paced competitive environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Desire to work collaboratively.
- Able to self-start with minimal information.
- Proven capability in shipping product enhancements by turning customer requirements into engineering improvements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in building and shipping production grade software or services.
- Ability to evangelize features and capabilities with customers for adoption.
- Experience in other competing relational database platforms.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
