Program background
Indias best chance at curbing poverty, is giving our women and their families the skills to manage their money better. Ujjivan has partnered with Parinaam Foundation to build financial literacy initiatives to make every underprivileged woman financially literate.
Our in classroom trainings for women and children, Diksha and Chillar Bank have been designed to give low income families across India the knowledge and tools they need to save safely, reduce financial risk and make informed, intelligent financial decisions. Diksha is one of Indias most renowned and well executed financial literacy programs. We have over 70 trainers across the country educating and training women every day. Our work has been recognised and appreciated by the Reserve Bank of India.
With Ujjivans transition to a Bank it was imperative that we educated the staff and customers to understand the role of Bank and how that would change the objective of the organization. Working with the different support functions we have designed programmes that will help the staff understand how to educate their customers on including their family as well understanding various banking products and benefits.
The scope also includes active contribution to communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives across India. Ujjivan is committed to spend 2% of its profit every year for the betterment of communities in and around the areas of operation of the branches of the bank. The CSR focuses on the key idea of supporting unserved and underserved. This span from skill building, infrastructure development, education, health, emergency/disaster relief and many more.
The initiatives has not only supported communities in crucial areas but has also earned the good will of the communities that are served. Spearheading the initiatives across India, employee engagement and identifying NGO partners are key to the delivery of success of the program.
