The Helpdesk Engineer will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of system hardware and software and related infrastructure. The individual will need to evaluate new products and technologies to enable continuous innovation within the infrastructure. The individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.
The individual will be responsible for the initiation, planning, and implementation phases of new and existing projects.
The individual will be accountable for all Windows-based systems.
Engineering and Provisioning Role:1. Engineering of Systems related solutions for various project and operational needs
2. Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
3. Creating, updating, and maintaining documentation related to Systems engineering
Operations and Support Role:4. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
5. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
6. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off-site as necessary
7. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
8. Create, change, and delete user accounts per request
9. Provide support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues
10. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
Maintenance Role:11. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure/add new services as necessary
12. Upgrade and configure applications
13. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures
14. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
15. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
16. Maintain data center environment and monitoring equipment
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:1. Graduate
2. Excellent oral and written communications skills
3. Ready to work in rotational shifts (24/7)
4. Experience in handling US / UK clients will be an added advantage
5. Relevant trainings / certifications
a. Knowledge of Windows Server (Server 2000 and above) and Desktop (7 and above) operation systems
b. In-depth knowledge of Domain Controllers and Active Directory including group policies
c. In-depth knowledge of DNS and DHCP
d. Knowledge of storage devices like SAN, NAS, etc.
e. Knowledge of virtualization and cloud technologies like VMWare, Citrix Xen server. HyperV or other technologies
f. Knowledge of monitoring applications
g. Knowledge of backup applications
h. Excellent problem-solving / troubleshooting skills
i. Quick learner
j. Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange, IIS, SQL, Remote Desktop Services, Blackberry, etc will be an added advantage
