Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities


  • Monitoring and supporting data uploads from telemetry devices to AWS
  • Defining processes to de-skill service and operation of complex custom software applications
  • Ensuring availability and reliability of custom business-critical services
  • Continuously improving the quality of service that we provide to our customers
  • Continuously reducing the amount of manual support required to keep our systems running
  • Maintaining the integrity of data stored in our applications
  • Performing planned and ad-hoc stress testing of applications, modules and components
  • Curating complex datasets including robotic telemetry data, clinical outcome data, surgical video data, business intelligence and much more
  • Monitoring the running costs of our systems
  • Supporting the use of our systems at all times of day all around the world
  • Refining the way that our systems alarm and alert us to possible service issues
  • Ensuring database jobs do not fail
  • Updating, deploying and maintaining new versions of our applications delivered by our development teams
  • Monitoring & informing the development team about errors in the system

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Experience of maintaining Web Applications in Support role with very basic coding involvement
  • Maintaining applications with large volumes of data
  • You must have worked on Application Integration Solutions including Web Services
  • You must have a strong knowledge of SQL & non-SQL databases
  • Experience of maintaining, validating, sizing / re-sizing AWS architecture
  • Experience with modern cloud services, e.g. AWS services EC2, RDS, Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, and Lambda.
  • Experience of handling Support services using Help Desk / Incident Management Tools
  • Knowledge of JIRA / equivalent tool (at Configuration level)
  • SVN, UBuntu 16.04 EC2, GitLab, TeamCity (any other CI/CD environment)
  • Knowledge of Analytics & Data warehousing / Reporting services will be a big plus
  • Upholding CMRs core values: ambitious, humble, people focused and fair and responsible.
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant modern object-orientated or functional programming language, preferably Python
  • You should be comfortable working within closely regulated privacy and security environments
  • The willingness to take ownership, make decisions, fail fast and learn from mistakes.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity working closely with international development teams, particularly in the UK
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems
  • A degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, data science, engineering, or other relevant discipline with some industry experience in a data management or related role
  • A masters level degree in a related discipline
  • A solid understanding of database and data model design, 3/5NF and star schemas
  • Experience with modern cloud services, e.g. AWS services EC2, RDS, Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, and Lambda
  • Experience with business intelligence tools, e.g. Microsoft PowerBI, Tableau
  • Experience with big data tools and technologies, e.g. AWS EMR, Hadoop/Spark, Kafka
  • Delivering dashboards and visualisations to analyse and track key performance indicators (KPI), metrics and key data points to monitor the health of a business, department or specific process.
  • Knowledge of standard libraries and frameworks, e.g. Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Tensorflow, Keras and PyTorch
  • Experience with Agile (e.g. SCRUM) development methodologies
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems and common software tools, e.g. Git, Jupyter, and Docker
  • Familiarity with applying modern techniques to data science problems, including machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning), deep learning, computer vision, statistics and signal processing
