Job Description
The Role : Morningstar is consolidating its offering for Australia market by bringing its global research capabilities together and delivering them through its dedicated Financial Planning products for Australia. The Senior Software Engineer will work on building systems that enable financial advisers in Australia in delivering competent and compliant advice.
Responsibilities:
- A persistent focus on product implementation with a long-term view of iterative product delivery.
- Experience of defining engineering best practices and providing technical mentorship to other members of the engineering team.
- The ability to build good working relationships within the team by communicating clearly both verbally and in writing
- Experience and understanding of Agile Development methodologies, especially Scrum.
- Fast learner, open to learning new technologies when needed.
- Good communication skills - Written and verbal to understand the current application and working with the Product Manager and Software Development Manager to understand the future functional and technical needs.
- Sound understanding of how modern web apps are architecture with JavaScript driving the application flow and APIs as the backend.
- Sound knowledge and experience of working on both front-end and back-end technologies.
- Expertise in either of the following:
- Creating APIs - In JavaScript on NodeJS, In C# on .NET.
- Creating Web Apps - Both server side ASP.NET apps and client side Javascript Apps (Built using pure Javascript, React.js or Vue.js).
- Expertise in working with relational and non-relational databases.
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum 4+ years of professional experience in software development.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in cloud native application development using AWS or Azure or google cloud.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in building ASP.NET applications.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in modern front end JavaScript framework (vue, react or angular)
- Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem-solving, and complexity analysis.
- Proficiency in, at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, JavaScript, Python.
- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs.
- Experience and understanding of Agile Development methodologies, especially Scrum.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Self-directed and detail oriented.
