SysOps Engineer I
Summary of Role
5-10YRS
BANGALORE
This role executes operational procedures and duties on cloud (server and serverless) and on-prem infrastructure while under supervision and training, but with increasing autonomy. The role emphas the ability to do systematic operational work that contributes to sustainable operations rather than manual operational intervention. There is an expectation that employees in this role will learn to work across all relevant systems, but there is a particular need for cloud orientation in the role.
Job Overview:
- Deploy, manage, and operate elastic, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems in the cloud.
- Implement and control the flow of data to and from the cloud.
- Select the appropriate infrastructure resources based on compute, data, or security requirements.
- Cautious, production oriented mindset that guards the integrity and health of production environments.
- Service orientation: focused on keeping systems running or improving their running to help users and clients.
- Eye to cost for company's bottom line.
- Identify appropriate use of AWS operational best practices.
- Migrate on-premises workloads to the cloud.
- Participate in legacy operations support on on-prem infrastructure
- Observes and documents operational pain points and collaborates in developing improvements
- Focuses on sustainable operations approaches: scripting, documentation, procedures, systematic approaches
Responsibilities:
- Using and improving governance approach to changes of the operational environment.
- Able to preferentially work on operational changes via scripting and code artifacts rather than manual interventions
- Day to day system administration of AWS production and non-production environments.
- Building and commissioning of new production and non-production systems as requirements arise.
- Partner with multi-disciplinary teams to understand requirements and plan architecture and solutions.
- Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting.
- Auditing and improving technical and procedural processes from an operational and security standpoint.
- Document standard operating procedures with appropriate controls to ensure smooth delivery.
- Apply a DevOps mindset to operations: participates in the full operations lifecycle for making continued improvements and providing technological solutions for system functionality and efficiency.
- Support internal users and technical resources as required.
- Research, evaluate and test new technologies.
- Perform related technical duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Familiar with AWS cloud services such as EC2, CloudFormation, IAM, S3, etc.
- Experience with Linux & Windows environments.
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
- Ability to articulate technical ideas to non-technical people
Education:
- BS Computer Science/Software Engineering or 5+ years of experience working in Information Technology.
- AWS/IT certifications are a plus.
