Job Description

Would you like to get paid to prepare your Masters thesis in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry? Or you already have a degree and would like to do real research part time at home?

A private US research organization needs a part time research associate or science writer to conduct literature research, summarize articles, organize information, and prepare outlines of research results. You must have expert scientific knowledge, but also have the talent to write clear concise summaries and organize volumes of complex concepts into cohesive streams of thought.

You will operate as a freelance contractor setting your own hours and working from home. The expected workload is 10-20 hours per week. Pay will be in accordance with abilities and experience with a target range of 700 INR/hr.

No agency submissions will be accepted.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility is to read and understand research literature assigned by the Research Director in the US and then prepare detailed summaries of each document showing conclusions drawn by those authors and background assumptions taken from the research of others.

Once this phase of research is complete, the primary responsibility will shift to organizing this complex and contradictory information into connected cause-effect streams by joining findings in one area to findings in another area and working to build a foundation for a coherent biochemical theory.

This material will be at or deeper than the level normally needed for the development of a successful masters thesis and, if you are in a masters degree program, you will be encouraged to use this material for that purpose. However, your contract will require your agreement that the material you provide is a work for hire and is the rightful property of the US research organization.

You must be able to make a long term commitment of time to this project. And you must a self motivated individual who can independently plan, organize, and prioritize your time to deliver a continuous weekly stream of work at the mutually agreed level.

You are responsible for maintaining good communication with the Research Director and you must take the initiative to resolve any research uncertainties.

Experience

Candidates should have an advanced education in biochemistry, molecular biology, or organic chemistry (or equivalent job experience) and a degree or background in technical writing, scientific writing, or journalism (or an equivalent level of writing experience).

A deep understanding of transcription, translation, amino acids, nucleic acids, reaction kinetics, and associated concepts is absolutely required.

Preference will be given to Masters Degree candidates in these fields who can personally use this research for thesis preparation.

Being a published author of scientific literature is desirable.

Excellent English written and verbal communication skills are required along with the ability to convey complex concepts and information in a logical and concise manner.

Must have excellent attention to detail.

Strong organizational skills are required with the ability to manage priorities and work effectively and efficiently without direct supervision.
