Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Under general supervision, organizes and directs the work of the Inter Nursing departments. Coordinates staff to assure that effective nursing services are provided, and quality standards are met. A multidisciplinary team approach to care is utilized. The function of the Nurse Supervisor is to develop and maintain an environment that supports all the staff in Inter Nursing departments and assist to provide the best Clinical care to patients
- Assist and participate in hiring of nursing staff as required.
- Assist and Supervise nursing staff, coordinate and oversee on daily task assignments.
- Responsible for assisting and maintaining personnel operations including performance appraisals, Rota Management, Shift Allocation, required Staffing Management at all Inter Nursing departments.
- Assist, coordinate and organise the required training to improve the competencies of staff.
- Provides leadership and guidance to all staff. Assist to identify learning opportunities, provide effective coaching and feedback, develop corrective action plan as appropriate.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing services with Doctors, Team members and other department HoDs to identify opportunities for improving services and patient outcomes.
- Ensures the practice complies with Hospital and NABH standards at all Nursing Inter departments.
- Assist and evaluate staff competencies by direct observation, peer overview, orientation and employee input. Assist to document the same in appropriate system.
- Promote, monitor regulatory Hospital standards and customer service expectations for the practice in all aspects of Nursing Services.
- Assist and ensure availability and operation of necessary clinical equipment and supplies in all necessary locations. Responsible for ordering all necessary clinical supplies.
- Assist and effectively intercede with family and patients to resolve concerns if any.
- Develop, maintain and evaluate patient/client and staff data collection systems and processes to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care.
- Collaborate with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive staff, and other stakeholders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program services.
- Delegate responsibilities to appropriate people.
- Monitor and evaluate appropriate utilization of staff in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Recognize the diverse skill levels of individual staff members and the unique needs of the patient population when developing staffing plans; ensures appropriate level of staffing.
- As needed, performs direct patient care, operates equipment safely and correctly, and carries out medical treatments and special procedures.
- Visit and monitor all Hospital Outreach Clinics as per necessary requirements.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Should have completed Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery / Bachelor of Science - Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing / M.Sc Nursing
- Current Nursing License, in good standing with the State Licensing Board [Karnataka Nursing Council].
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical risk.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to relate to and influence people at all levels of the organization.
- Must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lead and motivate individual Nursing Department team members.
- Must be flexible and function well under demanding conditions.
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant Nurse Supervisor experience.
- Compassionate personality, soft spoken and always willing to help team members.
- Good listener and with a bilingual ability (Kannada, English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Coorgi / Kodavatak, Malayalam).
- Knowledge of emergency hospital procedures, critical care unit infection control and hygiene policies.
- Hands-on experience in caring for surgical patients.
- Proven ability to multitask and work calmly but efficiently in sensitive environment
Key Skills :
- Leadership - A big part of the registered Nurse Supervisor is providing direction and accountability to the nursing team and certifying ongoing compliance with regulations and hospital policies.
- Training skills [- Play an important role in recruiting new nurses to the team and verifying they have the right kind of on-boarding to make positive contributions to the team.
- Verbal and written communication - Because the supervisor serves as an interface between nurses and administration, its imperative to have clear and effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of health care policy - Nurse Supervisor requires a firm foundation in health care policy, allowing them to enforce all relevant regulations and rules.
- Organization and time management - Organization skills are vital to be able to properly staff each shift.
- Empathy - Interact with patients and their families, and the ability to convey empathy is crucial.
- Analytical skills - Supervisors play a number of important administrative roles, including evaluation of the nursing team, organizational policy assessment and patient file management.
- Attention to detail - Accuracy is crucial to maintaining the highest levels of patient care.
