About the opportunity

The Signalling Design Manager will be experienced in leading Signalling renewals / enhancement projects and undertaking the design, verification and assurance of associated signalling designs and supporting specifications / reports. Extensive knowledge of schemes development and detailed design processes are essential for this role.

  • Line Management of staff / design team.
  • Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE), providing technical assurance on allocated projects, ensuring compliance with all contractual and statutory requirements.
  • Work package management; leading signalling projects and allocating deliverables / tasks to the design team, delivering within agreed budget and timescales and implementing effective management of change control.
  • Undertake signalling principles design, verification and technical reviews in accordance with current standards and procedures.
  • Adhere to statutory regulations, client standards and specifications where appropriate.
  • Attend meetings and workshops with clients and stakeholders.
  • Briefing of Staff (Standards/Technical/Safety).
  • Provide support, mentorship and guidance for the development of staff.
  • Support the Head of Discipline, as required.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical details, specifications and tenders for signalling projects.
  • Monitor the progress of works and ensure that the development, design, construction and testing requirements are met and effect remedial action when required
  • Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work in order that successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved.
  • Participate in the planning, programming and monitoring of resources to meet programme and budget requirements and targets.
  • Assist in the forecast of resource requirements necessary for allocated projects in sufficient time to ensure that they can be provided.
  • Perform duties as directed by Management from time to time in connection with Signalling design activities. Discharge safety responsibilities in relation to CDM Regulations, Health and Safety legislation, Company procedures including development of the project Safety Plan..

About you

  • BTECH or MTECH in Electrical / Electronic engineering or other rail industry recognized qualification with 10-15 years experience.
  • Membership of IRSE
  • IRSE License - Signalling Principles Designer (1.1.550)
  • IRSE License - Signalling Design Verifier (1.1.160)
  • Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE)
  • Extensive knowledge of Signalling principles and design processes GRIP stages 1-8.
  • Facilitation of workshops / meetings (Client facing)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
