Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Manager isa key member of the Finance team in the Continent, with focus in the APECRegion. This position is responsible for evaluating and improving the controlenvironment and operational effectiveness for managed hotels within Continent andensuring compliance with Marriott s Corporate and Financial policies and procedures.

 

Those activities are concerned with assisting and training hotels instrengthening and enhancing processes and tools to create strong internal controlswhich minimize risk and safeguard company assets. This individual will work closelywith the Continent s finance team, property leaders and Internal Audit toidentify control weaknesses and present recommendations to financial leaders. She or he will provide support ininvestigations. This position directly reports to the Director, Compliance, APEC.

SCOPE/BUSINESS CONTEXT/EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
Expected Contributions

List specific responsibilities and contributions critical toachieving the expected business results including performance contributionsassociated with the leadership band.

  • Develops objectives,plans and scope consistent with the objectives and priorities as indicated bythe supervisor.

  • Develops and/orenhances audit tools and reviews the internal controls within the region. Conductsproperty visits across the Continent to assess internal controls in areas whichinclude: Cash, Balance Sheet Certifications, Property Self Audits, Purchasing,Operations and other accounting processes as well as key control initiatives andpolicies as directed.

  • Ensures that accountingand self-audit principles and policies are followed, and actively trains hotelsabout the adequacy and effectiveness of internal accounting procedures, operatingsystems, financial policy compliance and overall controls.
  • Confers with Companymanagement on opportunities to improve policies, programs, and activities of theContinent and Regional; makes recommendations regarding specific areas ofresponsibility. Ensures consistent treatment and resolution of issues.
  • Meets with Companymanagement at all levels to discuss audit plans and results and makerecommendations to resolve findings requiring corrective action.
  • Participates in thetraining provided by the Compliance and Regional, and/or other appropriate MICorporate Departments.
  • Does follow-up onissues and recommendations resulting from property and Regional audits, ensuresweakness resolution and develops plans to improve overall control environment.
  • Trains property teamson control environment enhancements and share best practices within and betweenregions.
  • Reviews tracking ofaudit results through Quickbase and reports out regularly on the status of allproperty self-audits in the region. Identifies properties that have not metaudit completion goals or who are not properly using the Quickbase tool toreport audit scores and document action plans and audit deficiencies.
  • Independently conductsand/or support Compliance investigations to resolve cases when required.
  • Collaborates effectivelywith Compliance team members to share and leverage best practices on audit plans,observations, audit checklists and tools, internal control matters, policy andprocedure recommendations.
  • Lead and/or beinvolved in projects to enhance the overall control environment, using creativeapproaches and technology as an enabler.
  • Works with allstakeholders to identify and prioritize properties that should be reviewed bythe Senior Manager.
  • Partnering with Areateams, Compliance Councils, training champions to advocate Compliance and requiredtraining across all functions
  • Supports all MI hotel brands.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Knowledgeand Skills

  • Thorough knowledge ofthe principles, procedures, and techniques of accounting, and of financialrecords and transactions including, but not limited to, generally acceptedaccounting principals.

  • Strongcommunications (verbal and written), organization and presentation skills

  • Strongfinancial management and analytical skills; ability to identify trends infinancial statements

  • Knowledgeof overall hotel operations and governances

  • Understanding of governmentalregulations and safety standards

  • Systemsskills, including MS Office and hotel systems including, but not limited to Opera,SUN, PeopleSoft, Birchstreet, Transcendent

  • Proventrack record in leading investigations - planning investigation steps, interviewsand report writing

  • Abilityto work independently without much supervision and take initiative; strongprioritization, time management skills

  • Energetic,matured, alert with a keen ability to quickly see the big picture and link causeand effect for the next course of action

  • Effectivedecision-making skills; can choose a prompt course of action amongst optionsinvolving uncertainty or risk

  • Strongproblem-solving skills; encourages new innovative solutions when appropriate

  • Creative,resourceful and having the ability to think of the box approaches to translate Complianceconcepts into actionable business strategies and tactics to all levels ofassociates

  • Strongin data analytics, using AI and technology is preferred

  • Goodinterpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and influence others at alllevels, including senior management

  • Abilityto build consensus amongst various stakeholders with competing priorities

Minimum Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree inaccounting, finance or CPA, CA, CIA, CFE or equivalent

  • Minimum of 10 years ofexperience, including at least one of the following areas:

    • 1 year as previous Director of Finance

    • 2 years as previous Assistant Controller

    • 3 years experience in hotel auditing

  • Individual contributorwith the potential be a people s manager

  • Additional language preferred:Hindi

  • Ability to travelapproximately 75-80%
