Housekeeping aides clean and organize designated areas, such as hotel rooms, hospital rooms, closets, corridors, guest areas and stairwells. They must be proficient in using various cleaning chemicals and equipment. These workers are employed at places such as hotels, hospitals and assisted living facilities. A high school diploma or the equivalent may be required for this job, but more important than education are good communication skills, organizational ability and the stamina to perform physical tasks for up to eight hours a day. Housekeeping aides are also responsible for responding to the needs of guests in a prompt and courteous manner while maintaining guest satisfaction. At times, guests may request additional items in their room, laundry services, shoe shines, extra roll-away beds or cribs. They also answer inquiries of guests regarding various matters, such as accommodation features or local attractions.
